All you need is the transmission. You don't need a new ecu or controller. i believe you have to switch over the range switch, cooler/warmer, and the top solenoid pack, and maybe a filter from a tl.

To be honest I rarely use 3rd gear for highway passing. 4th gear has plenty of passing power. If I am cruising between 60-80mph and need to pass, 4th gear scoots. My point of stating that 4th gear was 9 percent shorter on the accord tranny is that it benefits acceleration over the TL's tranny for passing, normal driving and even full throttle.

Maybe in the TL you need to call for 3rd gear in the passing dept. but not the accord.

Passing at only half throttle in fourth gear. 80mph - 110mph. No need for 3rd, but obviously 3rd at full throttle would get me there in a heartbeat!

^ you will probably get more help in the regions section than here for recommendations on shops.

Thinking about doing the swap for 06/07 tranny as mine crapped out yesterday at 108k and from reading basically are trannys are extremely unreliable and don't wanna be on edge if i fix for it to break anyday. Only concern i have is i have a 99 TL, has anyone done a swap on a 99 TL, what would be needed or swapped out in order to get this bad boy running in my 99.

anyone done this on the 99?? been reading up and see comments that ECU and wire harness may need to be changed, can this be confirmed please?? anyone have a wiring diagram for what needs to be done for the harness and i assume the ECU would be plug and play.. Have an 06 tranny lined up that i found locally $900 67k miles on it, just trying to get solid info before actually purchasing. appreciate the help..

Hey guys, sorry for adding to a old tread but I am in trouble, I am currently texting from aside the road. My 03 TL Type S just hit me with the CE, VSA, and /!\ light combo. I'm letting it cool down for a bit before I try to make it home, kinda died on me and I wasn't able to do anything about it. I am interested in the Accord transmission for sure, I will be needing one soon it looks like. Does the triptronic still work if you do the swap? Also does anyone have a shop in the Tri-State area that has done the job? I am so busy with school and work that I may not have the time to do it. This couldn't have happened at a worse time for me financially wise.

Yes SS mode will still work. That is all controlled by the ecu and has nothing to do with the trans.

I recently got the P0730 code. The transmission is under warranty, but only for a rebuild. I've been reading up on all this and I'm thinking about doing the swap when I get the money. Where would I be able to find a 2007 Accord transmission? Also, what would a good price be for one? Thanks!

I definitely will. I'm just praying the rebuild holds up alright. If it doesn't I'll need to find another alternative to fixing it.

I wouldn't pay more than 1,000 unless it's less than 15,000 miles. Defidently take advantage of the warranty and consider this after the warranty is up

I will. The warranty is for another 6 months. I'm just getting an idea just in case the worst happens. I bought the car in December and was told the transmission was new. After this started happening I was then told the transmission was a rebuild and the only reason the mechanic is willing to honor the warranty is because he has a good relationship with the man I bought the car from, which is my cousin's cousin. I'm preying that it holds up now, but just in case I want to get a fair idea of what to do if it were to happen again.

Well hopefully it works out if not you could always do this swap. The gearing difference in the transmission is worth it itself

What is needed for the swap

Hello

I have been reading the thread and my 03 Acura TL tranny is ab out to shoot craps. I want to replace it with a Accord tranny per the posts. My question is what modifications are needed or will a 06 or 07 Accord V6 trannyjust bolt in. I really like the car but do not want to keep messing with this problem.

Hey Kcguru, welcome !
The '06>'07 Accord V-6's AT will directly bolt up to your '03 TL.
There are some minor mods necessary, but relatively simple. Take some time searching through the relevant posts concerning this. It's well worth the effort and time getting the peace of mind with a reliable alternative to our weak trannys. Usually less expensive and more durable than a rebuild also !!!

I will be swapping mine out in the next few months and buying a reman torque converter. I'm wondering if I should have one of the Sonnax kits put in for insurance. While the 2006-7 trannys have much lower failure rates, they do have issues.

Hey man, it's your money. But, if ya want the assurance of a black & white warranty.....then it may be worth it in the long run, IDK !!!

Roll the dice, ha...hah.

You'll get a converter with the used trans; use it. I'd trust a low mileage oe converter over a reman. I don't know what sonnax offers for these newer transmissions, but if it isn't too expensive or difficult, I'd do it. I've used other sonnax stuff in the past, and I have complete faith in the company.

So I called a place here in San Diego and the guy told me that this can not be done because of smog laws?.. This will cause the car to fail each time it need to be checked for smog. Does anyone know if this is true in California?

He is full of crap. There is nothing about the trans that would cause it to fail. There is NO cel with it and it doesnt effect the car in any neg way. If no one tells anyone that its not your stock trans no one would ever know.

Hopefully you'll report back and let us know the shop that would do it (or post a thread in the SoCal Regions forum)!

^^ That CL Transmission is exactly the same as ours B7WA = Shitty Trans

The Accord JDM trans? Well seems like its the same year so I would not gamble it.. Accord V6 = 2006 - 2007 to be sure.

Thanks.
From what I found about them, while far more reliable than our trannies, the 06-07 had a problem with the torque converter overheating and dying among other things.
I am thinking about having my transmission guy inspect it when I get it and if something needs fixing, using one of the Sonnax fix kits. It seems they really know these transmissions.

^^^I hadn't heard about any problems with this trans. My trans guy, while surprised that it was a straight bolt in swap, said those transmissions "never go bad." Funny, lkq was skeptical about it too, and the acura dealer told them that it absolutely wouldn't work. They sold me one anyway, but wouldn't offer their usual warranty.

They are waaaaayyy more reliable than ours, but I did find a chunk of issues online. The funny thing is you have to use just the right search term to find those posts. I forgot the term, found it, then forgot it again . From what I found, it is only a minority of the 06-07 that have issues.
Plus I won't know how well it was maintained by the previous owner so any little bit extra should help.

Almost any automatic transmission is eventually going to have issues as they wear with use and are normally neglected until it's too late.

It's the price one must pay for the convenience of not having to manually clutch and shift through the gears.

Agreed, but these were dying prematurely like ours.
I'll take a 90% success rate over 50-50 any day tho.

Welcome Jdelima87 !!!

Ya gotta get the V-6 (3.0) tranny. Doesn't matter if it's from a 2 or 4 door Accord.
Take some time and research the threads pertaining to the swap. Good luck !!!
