Transmission Rebuild in Toronto, any shop suggestions?

So the dealer is charging me $7450 to replace my tranny... :what:
I'm going to call different dealers in Toronto to see if this is right.

I'd rather rebuild it for $2000-3500 and buy extra warranty.

Can anyone suggest any reputtable shops they can refer me to?

Thanks

wow they were 4000 not long ago- do you need extras like all the motor and trans mounts and ecu and a major service??? Or is it the dollar shrinking the problem?

For straight rebuilds look for name brand shops with locations across the country- so the warranty is good anywhere...aamco- cottman in the states
Ask how many Acura or other make Tiptronics they have done- if you are not the 5th or later keep looking!
dont be the test subject or it will take 3 tries to get it close to right
$2500-3000 woud be normal price for that parts and labor

I don't know if this helps but here are the codes they pulled

P0700 Automatic Transmission System
P1740 4th Pressure Switch Failure

I don't think i need a new tranny...

What dealer are you getting a quote from, sherway, down town...?

If you want to do it on the cheep check out active green and ross or Mr. Transmission. I can give you a reference for active. Last time a friend of mine in a tranny there it was $2600. That was 2006/07 though.

Stupid 5 minute rule.. I should be able to edit WHENEVER!!

Get a second opinion. If you want a private mechanic to look at it, I can also recommend someone who works on a range of imports.

If you want another dealership to check it out, call down town acura. My contact there has left but they have a great service department.

Hey Rob,

I don't mind paying between $2500 - 3500 as long as these guys are reputtable and have done Second Gen TLs before.

It would be great if you could find out from your friend how his/her tranny is holding up since the rebuild.

Thanks!

Still which dealer did you goto to get the $7500 quote?

FamusFace 07-29-2008 01:02 PM

I went to Power Shift Transmition in Woodbridge and they still havn't fix rough shifting and everything I went there for. The owner name is Ralph and he's a peace of ****. Car was covered under dealer warranty. I'm still not done with them, they will have my transmittion running like new....

It was Acura Sherway.. I talked to the service manager there after I got the quote from the advisor because I thought that it was over priced and he was a prick. He said "What's wrong with that price?"

Goto down town acura and get a quote from them. I have an email into my buddy in the GTA.

zeeden 07-29-2008 04:03 PM

Thanks for your reply FamusFace. I actually talked to that guy Ralph he didn't really mention that the TL has tranny problems so I kinda knew that he hasn't worked on any TLs before.

A couple of the mechanics I called had something to say immediately after I mentioned to them that I had a TL.

He said "After I rebuild the transmission you won't have to come back to me and fix it again."

Wow, what a big fat lie.

Plus they quoted me $1600, too good to be true.

Okay I called them and told them I was quoted $7245.40 and they said it seemed about right. The dealers only replace them they don't rebuild them.

rob-2 07-29-2008 04:12 PM

Well ask them if they want the business because you want to pay $2700 for it.

Also call Acura Canada to try and get some help with the cost.

zeeden 07-29-2008 04:15 PM

Acura Canada are being bitches and won't help me cover the cost. I can't prove to them when the tranny oil was changed last. The previous owners doesn't have any old service records for the car.

Sorry to hear that. Oh the joys of dealing with Canadian businesses..

I will hopefully have something for you soon, but I might be delayed with recent events.

zeeden 07-29-2008 04:25 PM

No problem Rob. Thanks for the help thus far
