transmission question
ok my my 02 acura is drivable.. and i dont see any dramatic problems with the transmission, but on the occassion when im driving when i gas sometimes it the gears get stuck and i let go of the gas and push it agian and it will be fine.. i called acura and they said they would replace it for free. its not horrible to the point where i think it needs to be fixed right away, but i wouldnt mind having a new tranny! i hav 50k on my car. should i wait till later when its worst? or should i replace it now... i did recieve a mail in my letter..

Why wait? There's something wrong with your transmission and Acura told you they would replace it for free. Why risk getting stranded somewhere? What benefit is there in waiting?
Personally, I'd have it done as soon as possible.

I agree, replace it while under warrenty
Hi,
I am having 3rd gear isuses with my 2005 TL as well, they've rebuilt my tranny, no change, they've replace the tranny oil with "new synthetic oil" still no change, thrid attempt they change the cable. now my 3rd and 4th gear are not functioning properly. I filed a complaint with the BBB and Acura/Honda is blaming me and the way I drive it and gave up on trying to fix it. They never offered to replace my tranny!? Take it back, get it fixed while under warrenty.
Good luck!

The Lemon Law is based largely on how long -like over 30 days and over 3 attempts- the car has been in the shop.
As long as they keep providing a comprable loaner car at no charge, let em keep working on it and someday they will actually FIX it!

Are you saying they NEVER called you and said it will be 300 bucks because the front and side motor mounts need replacement. Or even just the front mount- most common part replaced with transmssion?
Some dealers "accidentally" put in the full labor charge of 200$ instead of the $30 it cost to install the front mount when doing the transmission install. part cost $120 average
If they did not call and get your permission- documented by them as to what day/time and person they spoke with, then you do not have to pay that amount. Its the law
Your receipt will list every item and the amount for part and labor, please check it and let us know- we all help each other

The front motor mount is very hi tech with a $120 price to match. I think the side mount is in the $40 range =but not certain
Look at the invoice and let us know what you were charged for each part and each labor, its all broken down there and if you were overcharged on labor we will help you get that back
Isnt the new trans great! Shifts a little rough when cold- its supposed to according to Acura website- a design feature! Smooths out when warmed up

Yes , it seems if you are under 50k miles its not even a question- over that and some places are doing them no charge, others a small charge
Depends on your dealer and your relationship with them, the cars history with them etc

jvue and all other readers of this post
Go to the acura.com website, ownership experience, register with acura section
You input your VIN and it tells you the status of any prior warranty work, warranties in effect and things you may be able to get for free.
There was a water pump/timing belt issue with certain ones- so thats under extended warranty as well
Also CALL acura at 1-800-382-2238 x 5
register there- different system and they can access different info than just the online owners link
Things to do- READ the transmission failure post to watch for symptoms of transmission failure
Find out the radio code and write it down- you will need it some day

You bought from a private party, while there MAY be someone on the Internet that will sell you an extended warranty..........not likely
Those are USUALLY -not always- sold thru used car dealers- and not always worth the cost
You dont state your mileage but with an 02 I am guesing you have between 50 and 90 thousand miles.
Assuming you have already called acura 800 and checked the recall or trans work history
Assuming your transmission does fail soon, the replacement unit comes with its own 12 month 10 thou mile warranty
What have you learned about the cars background?

i dont have any history from the previous owner about the transmission problem.. i found out about the transmission problem after i purchase the car.. my uncle bought a brand new 02 TL-S and when he hit 30,000k miles he had a tranny failure.. and now he's on his 4th tranny.. so he warned me about the tranny problems..
