tranny jumping n shutters

i have a 2000 tl with a tranny that has about 70k. motor 200+(changed the dash never kept track)

normal driving on SS.
from first to second it shifts fine. while in second around 2.75k rpm car shakes like back n fourth. up shift to third is fine. to fourth smooth to fifth smooth.

normal driving on D
everything is okay going up. not down. (mainly because the shift are done quickly n smooth(i think)). so quick i could be going 40mph 1.25rpm in D5 and it shutters. i drop to D4 and all is well. why in fifth at 40?

aggressive driving on SS & D
everything is PERFECT

normal highway on SS & D
cruising on the highway in fifth around 60 rpm is going around 2k rpm, i hear a shutter. once i let go of the gas the noise is gone. if i where to punch the throttle it also goes away.

aggressive highway on SS & D
everything is okay. it only seems to down shift on D when i go more than halfway with the throttle, which is annoying when you try to just cruise and you just so happen to come up on a hill or needing to pass someone.

no error code. history tho. i cleaned the throttle body and placed it back on. couple days after i got the code of death 0740. couple weeks after i bought some six speed parts n the light actually goes off. placed the six speed on the back burner. mind you when i cleaned the throttle body car was shifting fine. this was in 09 btw long ago so 3 yrs after, the code showed up, not sure if related. BUT! it might be. OR! the code came up is related to todays problem but not related to the clean up.

also this problem has been getting worst as the months go by. the shutter doesnt always happen but its been happening more n more. the jumping aswell.

any ideas? i have no error codes -__-

Hey JterrorC, if your're sure that the "squeak" is actually originating from the lower ball joint, it's telling you to replace it.

Chances are that if the ball joint is the original, it's shot and should be replaced with a new one. Moog makes a replacement which also has a servicable grease fitting. WD40 will temporarily silence the squeak and confirm the
necessity for replacing the BJ !

Thanks 3.2tlc on saturday i bent my control arm. what luck. i will be changing the lower arm together with the bj that squeaks. (same side) i sure do need help in what to do and what not to do. also since the control arm bent back hat rod that connect to the front chase snapped in half. awesome! -__- i will post a pic of this bent control arm. its a must see. it has a 90 degree angel..lol. i tapped the median of the highway at 80 mph. tossed the car to the other side. nothing else but that and the back camber kit bent. body panels are perfect still. there goes the ++++ of having FLUSH wheels..

BUMP BUMP BUMP for the tranny

not so brief story:

on the S turn my car pulled left HARD, i tried to bring back which i did but a bit late. both wheels slammed into median n bounced off to the other side where is stayed. a good samaritan pull over with me to see if im okay. subby owner. a nice looking one too cant remember which one..hatch! anyways. his car parked behind my car had 2 close calls in less than a minute. i told him leave before he got rear ended. soon as he leaves a car almost smashes into mine. two cops cars came and set up behind me until my tow guy came. as soon as the tow truck arrived a ford explorer slams into the second cop car. two minutes later a nissan slams into the white mazda bouncing into the median where he laid until my tow guy moved him out the way. 21 backed up for an hour minimum probably.

not quite sure why my car pulled left. mayb it was that squeaky balljoint . mayb it was icy patch. not sure

that ford owner said he stepped on the brakes n slipped off. the nissan had to be looking at us. while the mazda was stopped in the middle for no reason while cars are moving around him.

the hit made my wheels go positive camber. but no im am not sitting mexiflush. fronts are perfectly aligned with the fender rear tires are tucked with the stretch. rear wheels poke about an inch

front bumper just came out of the clips. one of the two rear camber bar bent causing that positive look. towards the front, HELLA bent control arm that snap off that rod that goes to the front chassis. easy fix?

Holy shit! To think I thought NY drivers were morons! I bought my tl in jersey, I guess Im lucky it lived long enough to see me lol!..... Are you expiriencing any slippage? Maybe try a filter and fluid change, possibly clean the solenoid screens while your at it?

Im having the same problem with my 2000 and it has DW-1 is red no burned smell checked all the solenoid screens and nothing all clean. I read in other threads that something about the lockup and the tranny shifting between 4th and 5th. My solution is throw it into D4 at low speeds and D5 for highway only. I will be switching to Amsoil ATF D4 soon, ill post back with results. Question have you ever changed the 3rd and 4th pressure switches ?
