Tranny drain and fill.. slight shifting problem

Hey guys so i just finished doing a 3x3 drain and fill for my 2003 acura tl-p. I knew it was time for and drain and fill when i started noticing a slight jump of about 500rpm when my car shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear.. after i was finished with my 3x3 drain and fill the problem was there slightly. i drove it around a couple of miles and my car only did the 500rpm jump about twice... Any ideas on if it was mainly the oil, or is my Tranny going out on me? Also my service engine light blinks for about 10 seconds when i start my car then goes away.. and i was thinking maybe my coil packs have something to to with the slight jump when shifting.. Thanks a lot guys

first ck the fluid level at 15 minutes warm from easy freeway cruise--from cold
needs to be BETWEEN the dots- not at either--between

each draining can release up to 3.4 qts,,so you may be slightly underfilled

You need to replace the atf filter too. that atf filter is a lot smaller than the engine oil filter and it gets tons of sludge from the gear packs, but it is being ignored comparing to the engine oil filter being replaced every oil changed. The condense sludge deposit is clearly visible on the atf drain bolt in just 15k; imagine how much it will clog the aft filter.

if its the MAIT REQ light flashing at start,,pretty soon it will go on solid and stay on
Thats just the mileage counter for the `oil change reminder`
It only counts miles- nothing else about the oil condition or level
~6000 miles it starts flashing, getting more insistant as you pass 7000,,7500 its on full

its a diy reset

I have the fluid filled right between dots as it reads, i did let the car run and shifted through my gears while it was on the lift and did all of that. so the fluid is at the right level and the fluid is red again! The fluid was really dirty. I did look up about the filters, but dont you have to take apart the tranny to change it?? and if im doing that i sure as hell hope that thats the problem with my shifting problem from 2nd to 3rd. At this point im pretty much assuming that the tranny is starting to give out on me.. and i also changed the oil too, i just went out and reset the light myself. thanks for all the help guys i appreciate it! One last thing is if i was to buy a used tranny could i put in a type-s one? since i drive a Tl-p. and i am also assuming that since these trannys are shit that i should buy the rebuilt ones with a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty instead of the used ones with 100k on them.. all input is appreciated thanks a lot.

the fluid level has been verified by the method I stated above?--
ckd at 15 minutes freeway drive from cold, the actual book method?

the atf filter is external,,you never go inside the trans!!
the pressure switch-shift selenoids are external as well and clean or replaceable

wheres the external filter?? The guy at napa said it showed the filter to be inside the tranny... so i guess im an idiot for believing him.. and the pressure switch shift solenoids are too? is it a pain in the ass to change them?? this is great news.. i really appreciate the input cause i have no idea about my tranny, and buying a new one would just suck.. and i let my car run for 15 mins on the rack not highway, but i did drive on the highway today and i checked it again this morning and and fluid was between the two dots.. so i dont think the fluid level is my problem, i definatly wanted to change my filter but i was thinking i had to take apart the tranny...(now i know not to listen to napa guys)

500rpm? I don't think that's flaring. I think your slipping.

Try the pressure switches, clean the solenoid screens. If that doesn't help. Its on its way out.

i just tried for the past 3 hours to the the solenoid screens... the 03 is a lot different than the 99 in the aspect of where thats placed.. there is an impossible bolt that is a small 10 mm. wayyy to small of space for a ratchet. i removed my intake, and battery and still couldnt get that last one.. i stripped the bolt because the only tool that would fit was a small 10mm wrench.. the 03s was placed very, very poorly. i am bringing it to my mechanic to see if he can do it.

I think your transmission is going. Changing the fluid and filter is always good maintenance, but you can only hope that it will actually fix a problem. Some see improvement, some don't.

I believe the TL-S tranny and the TL-P are the same.

kov--
please see our diy section,,3rd item down the main gen2 list after you log in `OFFICIAL DIY LIST`
Low on atf? was it ckd per the book method of freeway warm 15 minutes- then ck engine off, in park--level is between the dots-
not at either--between-- at that fluid temp

find the leak..axle seal?
then drain what it will give up and replace with Honda atf
the trans holds a total of 7.3 qts of which it will drain 3 to 3.4 thru the drain plug
--the rest trapped inside the torque convertor
Measure how much comes out

Just a heads up my tranny went out on me.. since i did all the research on how bad the trannys were for the 03's i went and bout a remanufactured on not wanting to risk it braking.. the 3 year 100000 mile warranty was worth the extra grand. 2800 bucks for the tranny... well there goes my mods money hahah
