TCS Flash and grunt

I recently bought a 2001 TL and it just started to flash TCS and grunt from stop or reverse. Only work done is rear rotors and brakes.

I found this:
Service Bulletin Number: 1002
NHTSA Number: 10009252
Model Years Affected: 2001
TCS SYSTEM DOES A SELF-CHECK (A BRIEF GRUNT OR GROAN) WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE OR DRIVE FORWARD AFTER THE VEHICLE'S BEEN SITTING.

Anyone have a solution for this problem.

its not a problem, like it says, its just a self check the system does.

I read that but found it hard to believe that such a rough noise and flashing TCS light weren't an indication that something is wrong. I can not image city driving and hearing that noise everytime I leave a stop light or stop light.

That does not sound normal. I hear 2 separate minor groaning sounds after starting & selecting P or D but it only does this one time.

I have this exact problem you described, my TCS lights comes on, I feel a slight vibration the pedal and hear a grunt everytime I leave a stop light. Would anyone know what the cause of this is? and could this be related to the check engine light coming on and off?

take it to a parts store like zone or kragen- any place thats does NOT have a shop attached to it (those places want 80 bucks)

They will pull the codes for FREE-
report back here with those and we can help you better

The warning lights mean something is wrong- the car is just not sure what
Its possible to damage a speed sensor during brake job and that would mess you up

get the codes read

Volly- you may have to pay- it seems canada parts stores dont do the code reads so you have to go to a shop- or know a ziner with the reader
Check the meets section for your area to meet someone!

totaled is correct- its 2 slight sounds as you begin motion the first time after you start the car
It will do it every time you turn the key on start engine and put it in gear, but only once per trip
Its a good idea to step on the brakes a few times if you back up from the driveway
Gets the system into operating mode and knocks the overnight moisture rust off the rotors

Some makes of car have a warning light that flashed until you put your foot on the brakes- then it confirms the ABS self test and its ok to drive away

What is making those sounds? ABS?

so how about in a 99... the TCS light comes on after i've been driving for a few minutes... and i can't get it to go off...

not without shutting the car off...

when i first turn the car on... i can toggle the TCS on & off... but after i've been drivin' for a little while it comes on and stays on until i shut the car off.

what the eff is up???

the light shouldnt come on for the self check.

the noise comes from the abs modulator pump and accumulator pump since they are 1 unit.

if the tcs light comes on while you drive and wont go off you need to get the code read. it could just be something as simple as a wheel speed sensor but you should bring it to get checked by either the stealership or a private repair shop that can access the TCS with a scanner.

Probably a bad wheel sensor

does the TCS light have its own diagnostics?
i called the dealership and they told me the TCS light comes on when the engine light comes on. but its just weird how it only comes on after i've been drivin' for a couple minutes..

i may not've explained whats up very well.. i dunno..

i still gotta take it in for the ignition switch & module recall work...

and probably have a buyer's safety inspection done on it.
after we bought it, and i called the dealer, he asked for the VIN, and we found out its a rebuild...
i didn't know rebuilds have a sticker on the inside of the door sill until afterwards...
i'm pretty pissed.. but i kind of like the car..

its quite beautiful.. besides how the stock CD player won't effing play burnt CD's... and sometimes won't even play bought CDs..

but the body and interior are in immaculate shape.. and I think its ABP.
