New user.

2001 TL 65K. Transmission will not operate in SS mode, no light for gear indication, no downshift or upshift abilty.

Happens about every other time I want to use the SS, will not work, then the next time driven it is fine. Occassional self cures while driving and can be used.

Has been happening about 1 week.

Help!??????

your car is still under warranty right? if so, take it to the dealer... I have never heard of that problem on this board before.

 

So the D5 light finally flashed so it went to the dealer. Code read retarded timing/engine overrev, which Service Dept said meant trans was slipping and fooling the computer.

The no ss intermittant problem they THINK is from soda being spilled into the shifter gate or thru the water bottle holder and got the shift selenoid wet- so by replacing all 500 $ worth of switches and micro whatevers- well that would probably fix it!

When I get my car back Tuesday I will dig into the center console and see if some spray clean-electrical parts cleaner is all thats needed.

The trans was covered on the extended warranty and I did need the front motor mount- 140$ at 69,000 miles

 

I have an 03 TL and that happened to me at 35k miles, before they did a whole tranny swap and I got the car back, and it still woun;t work (but no more D5 flashing, or car acting like it wodn't go thru the gears..) so i took it back and they replaced something in the actual shifter... all free because it was in warranty...

 

I should have seen this problem earlier. I had just thrown away my shifter assembly this past week. I would have given it to you for a good price

 

Had the car back for a few days now since warranty trans replacement, so far the ss works fine- I think it had a loose connection and in the process of diagnosing it- they fixed it
Will spray liberal amounts of electrical contact cleaner to be safe
