Steering Wheel Audio controls..Help
Ok, so the audio controls on the steering wheel haven't been to responsive lately. they work but not all the time...has anyone else had this issue and if so who do I fix it? Is it a loose fuse or wire?

I downloaded the link on my phone...its shows the plans for a MDX but I'm assuming its the same as the TL but its seems like a lot of work just to get to that ring...is it really as complex as Honda makes it seem?

Its not hard, dont let removing the steering wheel make it seem very hard.

2006 NBP TL MT6/ 02TL-S
One word of warning
When you get to the part about removing the Cable Reel-it says to release the "tab" on top and then remove it from the steering wheel shaft.
Well, at least on my 02-TLS, there is another tab on the inside face (towards the dash) on the lower side which they don't tell you about.
You can't see the little fucker and I kept wondering why mine won't come off like they say. Finally forced it enough to break the little plastic tab I couldn't see, and the cable reel slide right off. Then I could see it. Fortunately, the broken tab didn't hurt anything because when you put everything back together, the wheel holds everything in place just fine-I've had NO problems...but if you can find the little tab and release it properly, so much the better.
Other than that, it is not a hard job and fixes the problem A-OK. When you get down to the little copper ring, just use a small flat-head screwdriver and hand pressure only to make the dimples-DON"T use a little hammer or anything to tap, you will make too deep a spot and FU the copper ring.
This problem can affect all the steering wheel controls-horn, radio, and cruise control buttons. Its nice to have all that stuff 100% again.

I have had issues with steering wheel controls not working correctly for yeeeears. Came across that TSB not too long ago, hoping to try it soon. Volume down sometimes makes it go up, and volume up sometimes changes the station. So irritating.

There is a 3rd Gen TL forum, FYI - they might know something more specific to your model car. Other than that, it's hard for someone to know "the fix" over the Internet for something that just "doesn't work" with so little information.

Horn, cruise and Radio controls on steering wheel
Thanks to all that replied. It seems there is a steering wheel cable coil under the airbag in the steering wheel that may be the culprit. Poltergeist put me on to the lead and it sounds like it will make everything work.. The part from Acura is about $123 and labor is about $120. Look at the reply someone gave me with the thread going back to a 5/29/2009 thread with the same problem. Thanks to all who helped.

Cracked dashboards
Everyone with a cracked dashboard should flood Honda/Acura service call center to get results. I was on the phone with someone today for about 40 minutes. If everyone calls them we may get results. Call 800-382-2238 . I'm hoping something positive comes out of the call and I will let you know.
