solution to steering wheel shaking?

ok i went to get my oil changed and i told the people there to check out the rotors since my steering wheel was shaking wen i braked at 50+ mph. After test driving it and looking around they told me the rotors were fine. THe problem was was that i needed new control arms for the front suspension. I would need a new upper arm control and lower arm control. They are wanting 950 to do everything parts and labor. JUst wondering if anyone else has done this before or is this the solution?

sounds fishy. if the control arms were worn or bad, there would be play in the movement of them at all times, not just braking. plus when you brake the pressure is put into the nose of the car and the weight of the car kinda settles on the control arms. there is nothing to cause pulsation. if it pulses when you brake, its a rotational problem (eg. rotors warped) or anything that repeats during the process of brakeing as the rotation of the rotor till the car is stopped. and if its only during braking, as mine does, im going to say its fair to guess that the issue is int he braking system, and maybe even in the wheel/tires/lug/bearing area. if you want to try it yourself, find a area that is super smooth and at a decent speed, press the brake with even pressure to see if it pulses. if there is no irregularity in the road, there is no reason why the control arms would shift and then you can conclude that it might be an issue as stated above. 900+ for control arms is a complete scam imho. there is no way to make sure that your rotors are perfect with out the proper equipment to test it. its not like you can look at it and say its fine you need things like a tolerance caliper or if they put the rotor on the machine.

Bring your car to an alignment shop to have a second opinion.
