Silicone concern

Hey guys, Just one question. But first I would like to thank Jack_n_Coke for the clear headlight DIY write up. I followed it and it came out great. So thank you and the other members here on AZ.

Now my question is: I cleared my headlights Thursday night and I reinstalled them on Friday night and today the Nissan Silicone stuff is still a little sticky. Is this normal. The original silcone hardens I believe, so why is this one still sticky. Please leave me your thoughts and opinions. Thank you guys/gals in advance for your comments.

You might have a defective tube of silicone ...normally 24 hours to have the silcone hardens ..........

Thats what I was thinking. Can anyone out there who have cleared their own headlights tell me if their silicone from NISSAN hardens in 24 hours?

The nissan rubber comes in a semi solid state and it will stay that way. As you know tim that you didnt have to squeeze it out of a tube because it comes in a roll. If you used excessive amount of it then the extra rubber will come out from the sides, all you do in that case is take a sharp cutter/knife and take the excessive rubber off.

Over the passage of time though it will harden and get to a state where the healights would be back to OEM standards. As far as hardening to a state thats rock solid, then NO it wont go that hard but it would be hard enough to seal the headlights and keep the moisture out. My current retrofitted headlights were put together using the same stuff and i have had them on for about 6 months without any trouble through the typical NE weather.

One more thing, make sure after you put the headlights together you put the clips mentioned in my other thread on the headlights for atleast an hour.
