RPM and Temperature question

Hello guys,

I noticed that my 02 TL Type-S is heating up pretty fast. Temperate goes to it's normal 1-2 lines bellow the half mark for about a minute. Today i started the car and the fan came on in less than a minute and temp was bellow it's minimum mark.
I've been having staling issues as well as idle problems. Also when the engine hits 1800rpm-2100rpm range it starts to shake. Almost like there is not enough fuel or misfire or something is clogged up.

I'm planing of sefoaming the car, cleaning the idle air control valve, changing spark plugs (which are due anyway).

I was wondering if I should change the coolant temperature censor

I think I'm on right path to resolve this issues but any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks in advance

does it go above 2 lines below half?
if so get a honda genuine thermostat

is the coolant low- when ckd cold? res bottle at cold mark and rad to filler neck--not below it?
rubber hose in res cap on tight?

ck that fan temp sensor A for correct operation= watch temp-time-driver side fan comes on and off

Do BOTH fans run with AC on?

swap fan relays to ck them,,with ones of same color

pull a plug to inspect

go to parts store for free code reading

need more details on this heating issue

Hey Villibg, how many miles are on your TL ? When was the last service performed and what all have you tried up to this point ? Is the CEL on ?

Have the cooling system pressure checked and make sure that there's no air trapped within the system. If the temp guage goes up over the half mark, then it's time for some work. If it's been quite awhile.....drain and refill the coolant, replace the T-stat with the "oem" Honda 2 stage, and burp the system of air as this can cause an erratic idle.

If the EGR passageways and TB intake are carboned up, the motor will be sluggish. Check the "DIY" section for help cleaning these. Also, a good fuel system cleaner can't hurt, along with new "oem" NGK plugs and air filter.

If still running erratic, have the fuel pressure checked. If the motor still shakes, a bad coil may be the fault.....possibly worn out motor mounts ?

I agree,,no codes and shake = proceed to motor mounts testing
front and pass side are common failure
front and rear are vac boosted so failure causes miss too

thermostat stick with dealer HONDA genuine part,,TL is very picky on this
Coil any parts store or dealer about same price,,whoever has one in hand wins!

egr clogging prob is bad by 75kmiles,,all should be cleaning the intake manifold and service throttle body at the same time- manifold off the engine

spark plugs,,use NGK Iridium 8 dollars each at parts store,,dealer marks up price way up on exact same part!!

the temp rise issue is first to deal with
what are the fans doing exactly?
what does driver side fan do now? more than 1-2 minute fan run time after shutdown?
runs when still cold ?

I would get a `fan temp sensor A` to start with
(you called it a coolant temp sensor- which is the gauge part)

without fans at stop it will get hot then cool as you drive

thermo prob= it gets hot fast and suddenly, then hotter till redlines with both fans running and ac off

sounds like you may have both problems
how old is the water pump? you did the 105 service?

Definitely check that water pump. Mine was doing the same thing and I thought I had a thermostat issue. My engine cooling fan was coming on almost imediately and I actually had to end up replacing the motor in that fan. All of this was due to a bad water pump, so make sure that has been replaced.
