rear window popped loose, stopped working. removing door trim?

I searched for this but only found one other post which didn't have any real info.

The rear driver's side window made a loud bang today when rolling it up, and now it moves freely in the door. You can pull it up by hand but it won't work on it's own.

How difficult is removing the rear door panel to take a look, I've read about needing special trim tools?

I'm guessing something in the mechanism is destroyed but I may as well take a look incase it's just popped out of the track or something. The rear windows have had hardly any use.

Thanks for any advice.

Car is an '03 TL

Can't tell you how difficult to fix, but can tell you what is broken.

Same identical thing happened to my wife's 2003 RL. Dealership fixed under extended warranty. They replace the "Regulator".

You need item #1 (right side) or #7 (left side)
REGULATOR ASSY., R. RR. DOOR (POWER)
$123.60

The door panels on the TL require no special tools. Remove the screw behind the door handle and slide the trim peice out, then remove the screw in the door handle (the one you use to pull the door closed) then from the bottom pop the door panel out (by pulling on it) working your way around. Once you get all the lower clips poped out loft up on the panel to remove it from where it attaches to the top of the door. Shouldnt take more than 2 min to do. Becarefull to not pull too far once removed, you have to unhook all the wiring

Thanks a ton guys, the diagram & instructions really are a help.

If I have to install a new regulator, is it fairly easy to get it & the glass all lined up properly so it works smoothly and doesn't leak?

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.
