Rear Sway Bar Bushings
 

I am looking to replace the rear sway bar bushings on my TL...hopefully it is the cause of the occasional knocking noise I hear (they look pretty worn). I looked online at various parts sites but could not find the actual rear sway bar bushings for it.

Has anyone replaced these and know of the proper size bushings to get? From looking at the sway bar, the rear bar diameter looks slightly smaller than that of the front (which can be readily found). I'd appreciate it if someone with the TL manual can chime in with the exact OEM sway bar diameter.

not sure on your specific year but they are readily available at about any quality parts store. But usually the sway bar link is the issue and not the bushing.

Sorry, I was a bit out of it this morning. Its for a 00 TL. I have already replaced the end-links and struts. I had the same problem up front and after replacing a few different things, it turned out to be the $10 sway bar bushings. So I am hoping it is the same for the back.

Get them at the dealer , should about $20 for the pair , I replaced mine a while back and it stopped the knocking noise (really annoying too).SO good luck !!:thumbsup:

Is it possible to replace just the bushing? I had my 2002 Acura RL looked at by 2 separate mechanics today and both said the sway bar links are the cause of that rocking/knocking noise. Ons shop quoted me $360 for all 4 P&L and the other $300. But they would be replacing the entire link, not just the bushing.

if upgrading broken end links, consider MOOG brand,,many ziners on them

and for the main bar bushings ck `suspension techniques`,,buy them by bar diameter size at most parts stores
Those together will tighten the bars action without killing ride comfort

Don't think that this is an 'easy' job. More oftent than not the nuts on the swaybar links are frozen and the hex tool you need to insert to prevent rotation of the link will strip off. You are then left to cut the sway bar link off. ...If your time is more valuable than spending all afternoon doing this then let the dealer deal with this mess..The links will cost 100.00 for the piar.

funny how so many of you don't know the difference between the bushings on the sway bar and the end links they are two completely different animals and if you don't have the right tools you will spend all day jacking with a half hour job.

ok this the real scoop on the bushings and sway bar link. The bushings are 19 mm, but verify for your particular vehicle, buy Moog sway bar links, cost of all parts $60 on Ebay. The best way to remove the sway bar links is to use a tie rod fork and seperate the cup from the bolt. This is very easy as there is just a plastic insert that pulls off. Then you can use vise grips to hold the bolt and unscrew the nut. The sway bar links are sold as left and right, compare the new part to the old so you are installing the correct part. Install the links, grease them up and you are set. The bushings are super simple. remove the two bolts, slide on the new bushing and reinstall. the whole job takes one hour, tops.

forgive me for reviving a 6 year old thread but I think this is the closest thread I can find regarding my problem. I am hoping the OP is still active, but was the knocking noise you had like very odd and faint? you would even hear it at low speeds on some smooth roads?

It's more of a clunk when going over a bump at low speeds. I only hear mine when leaving/entering my driveway as there is a small but steep bump. I had my car aligned today and was able to go under the car and start tugging on things. We found the end link to be completely shot and allowing the sway bar to clunk when hit with a vertical force.
