rear crank seal out twice within 6 months.

while driving i smell oil, i got a HUGE running oil leak spraying over my exhaust, so it causes the smell.
FIXED IT!
now 6 months later the same seal has gone out again!
WTF.
first of all the seal should even go out, this was a rare problem!
but for it to happen again! my car only has 115k miles! i only drove 2400 miles and its out again!

Clogged PCV valve can cause abnormally high crankcase pressure.

thats my first thoght too!
We recently had a ziner with rear main leak after storing car

turned out the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve- located on rear valve cover near TB- was clogged!!!!!

so internal engine pressure had no escape except the easiest seal to dislodge =
the rear main!!

once he cleaned or replaced that few dollar part- the oil leak stopped !!!
and we have not heard anything bad from them since!

That seal is a bitch to replace. Just a few dollars part, but lots of labor work to get at.

thanks for the confirmation- you are the source of good intel on this one!

cars like this would have gone thru how many seals until a tech said- wait!! there must be a problem here~
the work order says fix oil leak- doesnt say figure out why it leaks~

Not really a rare problem on this motor. They are known to have the rear main seal to go. Especially on the J32a2. If you have any excessive movement on the crank it would cause it. Installed poorly or improperly could cause it. Change the PCV valve as well.

another problem with replacing the rear main seal is that once its worn down to a certain point, no matter how many times you replace it it can possibly leak again.

How? Its just a seal. Unless you manage to wear the crank end down, replacing the seal will fix it.
