random misfire codes? possible coil pack replace?

I need help trying to figure out why I can't go past 70-75mph... the car shakes crazily. I checked the car and got some random misfire codes, i replaced the spark plugs, did the whole car tune-up, and i just got my tranny replaced for ~3k about a week ago. yet still, i have problems with this car still!!!

so i looked around on the forums and found this topic
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-problems-fixes-70/cel-misfire-cylinder-2-5-6-a-740010/
does anyone think i have the same problem? if so i could change the coil packs myself and save some moolah!

thanks!

Most likely a bad coilpack. Buy only ONE coilpack and replace the cylinders that are showing misfires. Reset the CEL in between each replacing. It should be one of the 3 cylinders with misfire codes. If not, try the rest.

alright i'm back again, and apparently changing the coils didn't fix my problem. i changed 3 coils -cyl 1,3,5 and i was able to know that cause i borrowed one of those cel scanners. i also went to the dealer and got the computer reprogrammed for a incorrect gear ratio code as well. i tried changing #5 to #2 to see if any change would happen to no avail.
on the RPM dash, i am red lining, when i red line, my car does that violent shake and it feels like im riding a horse or something.
what else can i do? should i change all the coils or would that be a waste of money...?
thanks

btw, i get a check engine light only when i red line at ~65-75mph but as soon as i slow down it will go away, or sometimes it will stay until i turn off the car.

Are you serious? The car is supposed to do that. It's the fuel cutoff to prevent you from blowing your engine.

You might want to read up on what redline is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redline

Redline refers to the maximum engine speed at which an internal combustion engine or traction motor and its components are designed to operate without causing damage to the components themselves or other parts of the engine.[1] The redline of an engine depends on various factors such as stroke, mass of the components, displacement, composition of components, and balance of components.

well, today i got back from work and looked at the car again. used that check engine light reader and i got misfire in cylinders 1,2,5, random misfire. before, i got misfires in cylinders 1,3,5. i know i changed the coils for 1, and 5 already.
still pretty confused on why it's reading this... any thoughts?

I had that happen to my sister inlaws honda crv, replaced the coilpacks but that wasnt it, still got random misfire codes, it turned out to be something with the piston which was causing it to misfire...

I sure sounds like a coil pack..
Look inside the coil pack , there is a spring make sure it is not burnt.
When my coil pack went bad the spring inside the coil was black and burnt.
The 1 bad coil caused 3 cylinders to misfire and a random misfire, car shook like it was gonna fall apart and could not go over 50MPH..
The cylinders are:
123
456
and they fire 1-4-2-5-3-6 in that order for the CL and CL type-s (I belive TL is the same)

Check the old coils and look if the spring is blackened and looks burnt, if not replace 2 others w/those 2 and look at the springs in the 2 u replace.. It does sound like a coil pack just finding which one is gonna be the issue..
Also where your plugs tigtened to spec?

Misfire related to a piston- how so? Please elaborate.

Hey im finally back again after going through **** with this car... so far ive still been having misfire problems, i brought it to the dealer and they said i had the wrong spark plugs-- which they were right.. however i got the car back and it started misfiring again, cylinders 1 and 5. so i brought it back to them and they said it could be carbon build up on the valves or it could be because the cylinders i replaced my car with were aftermarket. very skeptical right now because i dont feel like paying so much money. i paid $340.47 to replace my spark plugs which was very disappointing

anyways my real question is, should i pay $120 to have them clean out the carbon from my valve? (if it is even causing the problem?)
i havent gotten a chance to mess around with the coils again, but im guessing i should try swapping coils around and seeing if it works.

on top of all this, they're telling me it's an intermittent problem, meaning that it doesn't happen all the time. well i was very surprised because it happens more often than not when i'm driving it... apparently when they drive there are no problems.. WTF

Going through it too

i'm experiencing the same issue as well. It all started with a tune up i did myself, new plugs, new air filter etc.

The mis fires began shortly there after,
The VSA and ! lights blazing!
I replaced the spark plugs again, still mismis fire this time 1,3,5 before it was all 6, now just 1,3,5.
I bought new coil packs and now i have an issue in piston 1.
I pulled the coil pack to see if i was getting a spark - ok
I pulled the plug a little gummed up but i cleaned it and placed in it position 2 it fired ok 1 still missing.
I have good compression and the injector is getting signal.
I suspect a bad or clogged injector.

Anyone know of a diy to replace the injectors?

Your tranny may be dying. There is a service bulletin for the Acura TL trannys.

If you use the autostick function, can you still not shift to D5? Does the tranny have really rough downshifts?

How did you resolve your misfire issue?

Help!

I have a 2002 Acura TL with over 330k miles. It's only had one previous owner who took very good care of it. It recently started misfiring. I took it to the garage and they replaced my spark plugs and one coil the day after I picked it up it started misfiring again. Saturday it broke down on the highway after it started shaking horribly and died and will not start. The mechanic told me that my other coils are all original as well and need replaced. Does anyone know more about this than I do and should I spend more money on other coils? And I thought it was a coil pack not individual coils
