So i was changing my oil this morning and i noticed something leaking right behind the transmission...Could anyone tell me what is leaking? It kinda looked like oil but it was leaking behind the transmission.

Should i be worried?

Leaking from where the trans bolts to the engine? If so sounds like a leaking rear main seal

 

if thats the problem...and its not leaking very much..is it something that needs to be fixed?I'm a college student with no money :/

 

I wouldnt let it go unaddressed for too long. Its something that should be done. Id keep a eye on it and if it gets worse have it replaced

 

Yeah - a rear main will leak as you're driving (not really seen as a puddle in the parking lot), so you really have no idea of how fast it's leaking except by constantly checking the oil level.

You should get it fixed - but it will be expensive.

But let's hope it's some other fluid - like power steering fluid. Have a trusted shop check it out.

 

hmm...guess ill wait and see how bad the leak is. I can't afford to fix it yet and unfortunately i have nobody in my area that i know that i can bring it to, to look at it.
