i just got a call from acura yesterday saying my transmission needs to be changed and its not covered under warranty cos i have 134k miles ... i dont know what to do .. they said it will cost me about $5700 to get it fixed.
at this point i dont know what to do .... i am thinking of may be a trade it for the value of the car i get ... it still drives ...

The Prius is a very, very good car. I say go for it if you want the fuel economy and techie features. Fully loaded it's even more of a tech-freak car than the TL is.

hi,
yes i went to prius cos i liked the test drive and also its not fugly !!! you think like that cos you are not used to it .. once you get a hang of it u will love that car ... it just takes time .... its something different !! where are you from ? if u r some place in upstate ny .. i will trade the cars with you for 1 whole week ... i am getting this car tomorrow and its brand new but i m still willing to trade with you just so that once u get a hang of it u will not say that its a fugly car .. u will recommend it ... Trust me that what happened to me .... why do u think there are shortage of these cars ? why do you think people who wanna buy a prius have to wait for 3 months before they get one ?
anyway .... let me know .......
thanks ,

*personally* i would have bought an accord or civic hybrid (my
), but the prius is a good choice for the eco-conscience individual, so long as you don't expect to recoup monetary losses.
either way, good luck with your new car. we hope you enjoy it.

Yeah - that's the problem with the hybrids. You would have to own them for 10+ years to save enough gas money to offset the premium on the purchase price. Most hybrids I see now are being driven by baby boomers who recently became "eco-friendly." I guess too many years of driving a mega-SUV can make you feel a little guilty.
BTW - all current hybrids use a CVT. That's one VERY expensive transmission to repair because it almost always requires the changing of all of the hydraulic components. The lifespan of your average CVT is generally shorter than a conventional tranny. Early Honda CVT's were crapping out at 30k miles... I know the warranty on the hybrid drive and battery components is long (like 8/80), but imagine the 100k tune up cost (replace all batteries - and do all of the conventional engine work as well). You have to figure that into the cost of owning that car as well. Altogether - I don't think these cars save their owners any money. That must be why many fleet customers are opting to not buy hybrids.
Oh - and no - I wouldn't like to trade cars (although I appreciate the offer). If I were to get a hybrid I would want it to look like a regular car like the Honda Civic - not a space age jelly bean like the Prius.
