Just Another Tranny Issue... Need rebuild at 105,500 miles
Okay,
I bought the 2000 TL used with 84000 miles on it in 2004. Thought I would drive it till 2008. Last year at around 93000 miles I took it in because it was acting funny and was shipping funny. plus the oil light came on. I could also turn off the car with it still in gear. The gear would get stuck. Roll backwards on a hill. etc. etc. I also received the recall notice and told the technician about it. So, he claimed he checked the gears and saw no discoloration. He then stated as result he installed the oil jet kit and it should solve my problem. Now I had no reason to believe he lied to me and thought okay I have it for another 50,000 miles. Wrong!!!!!! Last week 6/14/2006 and 105,500 miles outside the 100,000 warranty I took it in to get a transmission fluid change and what do you know the mechanic said there was composite material in the fluid and that he believed I needed the transmission rebuilt. I am looking at about $3000 bucks for that and a 3 year warranty. I bought this car instead of the BMW to save $3000 that I am about to spend on a rebuilt transmission and $4500 if I let Acura do it. If you have this car take it back to your nearest Acura or Honda dealer for the Lexus or Toyota some poor dude or dudette just trader for one of these defective vehicles. IT WILL GO OUT AFTER THE WARRANTY. JUST WATCH. I can't afford to have it rebuilt. I actually work a job helping students learn. I am going to have to park this car get a pre-owned toyota, bmw, or infinity under 80,000 get another job and pay for both until I can pay for the transmission rebuild and then sell it or the other vehicle. It's cheaper to pay for two cars for 4 months (650 per month * 4 = 2600) rather than shelling out about $3500.00 dollars and rental car $225 per week for 1 week. This is bull crap. I know I am going to end up needing the transmission built again in another 20,000 miles.

You need to stand your ground with the dealership and Acura. You brought the car into the dealership for repairs during the warranty. Now 5k miles later the transmission needs to be replaced.
I would work with the dealership to have them pull-up their records and confirm that you brought the car in with the issues you described in this thread.
Ask them to work with Acura Corporate to perform the repair free of charge to you since the damage was not discovered by the mechanic even though the car was clearly having transmission problems.
I would arrive at the dealership and ask for the Service Manager. I would try the soft approach of saying, I need your help in getting Acura Corp to repair the defective transmission when I brought the car in X months/miles ago.
Be polite but firm that they work with you to repair your car.

Hey wait a second. Acura called me this morning and asked me if I have all the paper work to show that I have had the vehicle serviced and to have the diagnosis done. But guess what. Turns out that the person who owned the car before me also had problems and reported it to a Honda and Acura dealership in Alabama, but they didn't put it into the computer but the previous owner had cramed it into the inside of the vehicles manual and I found it when I turned in my car today. I sent it to acura to show that the vehicle had started experiencing trouble at 42,000 miles. A technician at the Alabama plant had drove in Sept. 27, 2002 and said that the vehicle was hesitating between gears but they ran all test and found that it was okay to drive at that time. Hey, I will keep you guys posted. I just might end up buying another Acura afterall.

Guess I should follow the process before I attempt to tongue lash a Automobile Manufacturer. Okay Acura/Honda has regained a customer. The just called me and told me I needed a new transmission which will be covered under my warranty. This basically gurantees that my next vehicle will be an acura. Preferably an Acura RL but I can settle for the TL or a TSX. Anyway thanks acura I really needed this help... I would never have been able to afford this and I don't know what I would have done. Again Acura shows why they are one of the highest quality automobile makers.

Dude Im glad they stepped up to the plate for ya!!
i was reading your original post;got real upset and then cooled down knowin they took care of you.
I was like 105k!!! these guys are not warranting your claim at 105K!!! Thats proposterus im sure I missed spelled that
Unless your past 120,000 they should be able to assist you with some type of warranty. wether it be parts, labor or both.

Good news
Just a follow up. My 2002 TL-S had a tranny replaced at 42000. Then last week at 142000 the tranny went out again. Honda of America replaced the tranny but I still had to pay the labor, approx $950.00.
