Idemitsu H Plus Dw-1/Z-1 tranny oil
Anybody tried this oil? It’s non universal and it says it’s fully compatible with Honda Z-1 and DW1 specs. Might buy it since it’s cheaper than using the dealer oil and it might even be the exact same stuff.
Just wondering if this would be safe to use in our picky 2nd Gen Tl’s as an OEM alternative.

Amazon has it at 9 bucks a quart: https://smile.amazon.com/Idemitsu-30...-no-redirect=1
versus 12 here: https://smile.amazon.com/Genuine-Hon...omotive&sr=1-4
For piece of mind and 3 bucks a quart, I'll personally stick with the Honda/Acura stuff..
What's the saying about being a penny shy and a pound foolish? It's already a glass transmission, why risk it?

The guys on the thread below state that Idemitsu is the OEM supplier to Honda for DW-1; therefore, their ATF TYPE-H PLUS 'formulation' should be the closest (additive package wise) alternative to the real Honda branded DW-1.

Well, they are, but its not. If that makes sense. A better BITOG thread is the discussion here:

The TLDR version.
Nothing out there we've looked at so far has a similar makeup to actual DW1 when it comes to an oil analysis.
Idemitsu has responded to my email that they are confident that their fluid matches the performance of DW1. (And in my own vehicles, I've noticed no difference)
Lots of us use it and like it.
My opinion: There are more ways to get the job done than having a fluid that 'matches' DW1 in analysys. The high Zinc in the honda fluids was to provide slip for the clutches to smooth out shifting. I continue to use the Idemitsu fluid as I like buying it in the 5qt containers and it works well for me.
