high beams and running lights won't work?!? Please help.

I've been having problem with my running lights/ high beams sine I purchased my car used 2 years ago. When I first got it the lights would only act up once in awhile.

At first the highbeams wouldn't work when I tried to flick them on. I seemd to be able to fix the problem by turning all lights off the back on then trying to re flick the highs on. That worked for awhile. Then the high beams stopped working all together. Now recently the the running lights/highs won't work at all.

I know the bulbs are fine so I'm wondering if this is a wiring issue or possibly some sort of headlight relay? Could it possible something as simple as a fuse? I thought I checked all the fuses that had anything to do with the headlights?

I'm really baffled here and desperatly need this problem fixed. The dealership wants at least and hours labour just to figure out the problem. Any healp would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance

I would check the grounds by the headlights. One other possibility would be the switch that turns them on. Since its more than just one issue i doubt its a fuse or relay.

bump please some more advice would be great. My hids work fine its the regular headlight that won't work? I doubt it would be a ground because they never flickered or anything like that. They would only work randomly. Like I said also, if they weren't working I used to be able to just turn the headlight switch off and on a few times and then they would work. Now I have no action??? Very puzled. Please help

Sounds like you'll need a new DRL controller box.

Yeah, but it's pretty expensive to replace. Check out this DIY before committing to buy a replacement.

DRL = Daytime Running Lights. The module controls the DRLs/high beams and if you unplug the module the only lights that will work are the lowbeams. That is, the DRLs won't turn off if the module is unplugged and you won't be able to use your high beams.

Had my mechanic follow this DIY for the DRL's on my 02 TL. They are back on now, saved some dollars. Thanks for the info.
