HID Headlight Out...2003 TL

so a 13 months ago...i caved in and let the Acura dealership replace my inverter and bulb for like 1200...

had a 12 month warranty...now somehow after a drive thru car wash last week...some water got into the left headlight fixture again...but is only affecting the bulb...the high beam is still fine...and the left turn signal BEEN not workin

can i call BS?
like how can water get in and ONLY affect the bulb and inverter...an inverter that yall fixed and got fucked up 1 month after warranty expires...

on top of having replaced the original damaged bulb with what the invoice said was a $12 bulb...so the vast majority of that 1200 was the inverter part and labor...

am i better off just buying a brand new HID kit which is by far cheaper...and just switching out BOTH headlights (the right headlight just needs some lens restoration)

Is there REALLY a problem with the inverter?

its a combo prob
moisture inside the headlight lens drips out and onto the ballst- working its way in over time
You happen to see it after car wash but its been happening a while
High pressure water spray and the lights on the TL are a bad mix = lousy seal on lens

there is also a control box- silver metal- that fails, thats probably what you got before

Most of us run HID replacement kits when a problem occurs
for under 100 dollars you can get a full set of waterproof parts that you can mount away from the headlights~
try our sponsors www.hidextra.com they have coupons online too
and www.hidconcepts.com
for top quality Kaixen bulbs see Excelerate

get 5000k or the stock color 4300K dont go higher - you just lose light to see the road with

welcome to the new headlight club!!

the high beam is a plain ol zenon/halogen bulb,, like a sylvania silverstar $50 pair

so 12 bucks would be cheap from the dealer for that,,maybe $12 for a turn signal bulb,,the parts store gets 7 a pair for those~

the low beam is a seperate system from the highs, its HID= high intensity discharge- and the dealer gets $125 per bulb!!!! those kaixens are 100 a pair

the places listed above have ~no brand name~ bulbs but they are working fine so far.
If 1 fails, call for replacement under warranty

I sell the d2r bulbs (wagner brand) for 95 bucks at my retail parts job, i bought a whole new D2R kit from HIDExtra for 80 bucks and bought my HID fog light kit for half off when they were running a deal! pretty good stuff so far had em about a year or more now. new bulbs from them are 29 bucks for the pair so if they fade soon, which my passenger side is, just buy new bulbs cheap!

HID replacement

I found the easiest way to replace the ballast is to get an aftermarket one like Morimoto Three Five Ballast for $55. Sold by www.theretrofitsource.com; Forget about getting the original ballast made by Stanley & sold by the dealers since they are way over priced at $300+ & it is a royal PITA to remove the bumper to get to it.

My solution is simply to cut a slot wide enough (cut from the threaded area to the back cap) in the HID bulb rear cap to allow the HID wire to slip through. Route the wire through this slot you just made, & put some GE silicone to seal it. Before applying silicone, check to make sure you have enough wire to assemble the red connector to the bulb & there is enough wire slack for you to twist the cap shut. And also, enough wire to where you want to mount the ballast unit.

After all the assembly is done, replace the 20A fuse if it was blown.

Turn the light on, sit back & laugh at the thief dealer who wanted big $$$$ to replace the ballast.
