Help...Head light issue (low beam)
 

I bought the 6K lowbeam headlights since they were so cheap on line at e-bay to see if it was only a low beam head light problem. The mechanic says I need a whole new headlight assembly. Is that what you call the whole thing - that you replace the entire headlights with? I need to know cause I am trying to find something I can afford. I looked at the Acura OEM parts and I was floored - do I need ALL that stuff? The mechanic said he could replace it but its would be $700! I have heard the dealership would charge $2,400. I have the bulbs so all I need is the part that you take out - then put back in to get the lights to work. I have seen on on-line a "2002 passenger side headlight assembly" (no lights included) for $122. IS that the part I need. I am sure if that is the case replacing it would not cost THAT much since you just take off the bumper, disconnect the lights, put the lights back on and then the bumper. HELP! I don't want to be taken advantage of.

lets get the terms straight
a headlight assembly is the housing,,it often leaks at the lens seal
Do you have any moisture inside the lens problems?

the main parts of the system are what the rest of us are replacing these days,,either age or mositure kills the ballast and capacitor/ignitor units,,$$$$ for oe parts

Okay - I don't know why he would charge THAT kind of money. I will talk to him myself - my boyfriend is NOT a do it yourself kind of guy and he spoke to the mechanic. I will find out if he needs ballast, igniter and ask him to make sure the assembly is not cracked or letting water in and to put the stuff to make sure it doesn't leak. As for moisture - not sure because I was not looking for that before I took it to my mechanic. My car is old but I like driving with NO car payment! Ha! It has 293,000 and still runs great so that is why I keep fixing little things. My mechanic rebuilt my transmission (the 3rd time is the charm) for $2,200. He's very good but not sure why he said it would be so much! I will let you know when I find out what he says. THANKS!

I just spoke with my boyfriend - he said the Acura parts were $700 NOT the charge the mechanic will charge. The mechanic said to get the parts - he'd charge $50 to put them on. WHEWWW - now to order the ballast and ignitor. That is doable. :)

do NOT order those parts !!!
get them from a trusted supplier of aftermarket kits- hidextra or hidconcepts are good places to ck
the kit parts are waterproof-- a major bonus, and any mechanic can install them.

As for the housing itself and any leaks, you can buy new housings for about 200 a pair
or try some silicone seal externally, or take them apart and seal it right
but with the new kit it shouldnt really matter
Even if you already have new bulbs- for the few dollars they cost with the kit- to have a spare set = invaluable

Before buying parts put the bulbs in and see if they work.
