Got new rear wheel bearings today!!
Well, as I suspected, the humming from the rear of my car turned out to be my rear bearings.
I got 55K miles on my TLs and I took it in to the dealer on Wed. Since I got appx 7K miles left on my certified pre-owned warranty, I figured I should get it looked at. So, they let me roll a fairly new 06 Anthracite TL loaner for 24 hours while they looked at it, so I was happy.
They replaced my bearings under warranty and I cannot believe how much more quiet the car is now! I am not kidding when I say it is literally like night and day. The humming I had sounded similar to tires nearing their end of life, but now..it is so much better!!!!! Especially since I just put on new tires a couple months back.
If you are experiencing a "whirring" or "humming" type noise that changes tone with speed, it most likely is your tires (bad steel belt) or the bearings. Even could be a combination of the two. I knew it was my bearings because I got new tires and the sound was exactly the same afterwards.
