Fuel Pressure Regulator.
#2
Hi Sarah,
Here are some of the tall tale signs of a dying fuel pressure regulator:
Sputtering- The first sign of a faulty fuel pressure regulator is when the engine sputters or stumbles as it runs. This often manifests itself as a heavy vibration as the engine accelerates.
Trouble starting- Failing fuel pressure regulators will cause your TL to experience difficulties starting when it hasn't been turned on for a while.
Excessively noisy fuel pump- This is the common result of the fuel line attempting to inject too much gasoline into the engine, making the pump louder than normal.
Fouled spark plugs- A bad fuel pressure regulator will create thick deposits on the contact surface of spark plugs.
Drop in fuel mileage- A sudden and dramatic drop in fuel mileage is perhaps the most notorious symptom of a failing or bad fuel pressure regulator. This occurs when more and more fuel than is necessary is forced into the engine and burned up at an increasing rate.
If you determine that your fuel pressure regulator is bad, then replace it with a new one. For your reference, the OEM p/n is 16740-P8A-M01 and it costs anywhere from $100 - $139.
Hope this helps!

there is a much greater chance that running it low on coolant with a failing water pump- so it wasnt providing proper cooling inside the engine=
is what led to the having to push throttle harder, stumbling etc
as the rings became siezed and the pistons didnt want to move,,,that would explain a lot of things
note with the new tbelt- have your tech install new tensioners, idler and roller pullies
then you know everything is good and can drive 100kmiles without concern
Failure of any of those bearings results in broken t-belt and blown engine
you are getting the engine cheap - another $100-150 for all the right extra parts is cheap insurance and peace of mind
