Erratic Driver Door Locking Behavior

Erratic Driver Door Locking Behavior
1993 TL. Key fob remote does not lock or unlock the driver door. Other remote functions work, i.e., trunk opens, other three doors lock and unlock OK. In addition, the lock control switch on the interior of the driver's door does not lock or unlock the drivers door, though it locks and unlocks other three doors.
I believe the problem is in the drivers door. In the past I have been able to restore various remote functionality problems by using the key in the driver's door to repeatedly lock/unlock. On one occasion, spraying WD-40 in the key opening on the driver's door cleared up a problem. This doesn't have any effect anymore.
I figure there is a mechanical switch contact or sensor inside the door that is malfunctioning. Any idea what I should look for, clean, or wiggle to firmly diagnose and then to fix the problem?
Thanks

My first guess would be the actuator. You have to take off the inner door panel to access it. It is attached to the latch mechanism, has 2 wires, and you could test it with a test light, a voltmeter, or by jumping it with test leads.
