Driver side, rear window won't go up

Took the 2002 3.2 tl for a spin to the store today. Being 95 degrees, rolled all windows down to cool the car, then rolled them up. Rear driver side window went "THUMP" and stopped at about 2" open.

Grrr, I hate working on door crap. So, I pull the panel, moisture barrier, etc. to see if I can see anything obvious (like broken pieces, etc).

Two questions for tonight - 1) any ideas on how to jam the window in the up position? 2) Suggestions as to obvious things to look for? I know I want to say "the window regulator is broken" but I don't see anything broken. It goes up and down on its track, etc.

thanks

Sounds like the window regulator is broken. The window is not suppose to move freely up and down by it self. You will need to replace the regulator.

You can keep the window up by taping it with 2" masking tape. Just push the window all the way up and tape the glass to the window frame all the way around.

Tip: To prevent the regulators from breaking in really hot weather. Prior to exiting the vehicle just tap the window power switch (open) lightly to back the motor off just enough to take the pressure off of the regulator. By doing this the motor is no longer pushing on the regulator and causing damage.

01acls - can you tell me what exactly breaks on the regulator? Just curious, it's the most likely issue.

The two most common breakages are 1. the plastic piece that the window bolts to weakens over time from flex and it snaps off. 2. The other is the piece thats mounted to the glass itself breaks off of the glass. It may be glue on or pinch on.

BTW tape up the window from the inside.
