Drain and Fill question.

My current tranny has about 55k miles on it since it was replaced. I want to do a drain and fill but I'll be moving back to Texas in July (2600 mile drive).

My main question is, for those have that done the drain and fill, if failure occurred how many miles was it after the fluid change? I don't want to be stranded in the middle of the desert if things go for the worse.

Thanks for any input.

Its usually the high mileage, close to/over 100k.

But in your case, if it's only 2600 miles, I would wait until you get to Texas.

I just did mine at 40k. Only 1x though. I'm doing 2x soon, and 1x every 15k after that.

Then change in shift smoothness is pretty noticeable.

I wouldn't worry about it now, change it after the trip. Looks like this transmission survive longer than all other one before huh ?

Yeah I'm leaning more till after the trip. From what I've read it seems like I can do it without any shop equipment and that's one of the reasons I'd do it here.

And yes this is the longest transmission I've ever had, everything else blew out between 30-40k miles.

That long trip,I will do one three qt. drain & fill before and after the long drive if you do it yourself.
Cost benefit wise is just $21.00 for 3 qts of Honda ATF...
for your peace of mind. I think thats cheap.
