Dim Instrument Lights

Got a '99 TL -180K - The total mileage indicator and the few LED looking amber indicator lights around it are very dim. Occassionally, they will be bright again. The instrument dimmer scroll knob works on all other instument lights and the lights near the shifter, but does not help this problem. Does anyone know if there is actually a light bulb back there that can be replaced, or if it is an electronic LED type part that would have to be replaced as a unit?

They are bulbs and are available at the dealer.

We all have that problem mike. The 99s came with dim clusters. They were updated in 00 or 01.
The cluster doesn't dim with the rest od the instruments. There are bulbs available from your local dealer or search acuraoemparts.com prices are ok. Or you can do an led upgrade. Just search and you'll find topics on that.

Is it possible to replace 2002 TLP cluster blubs with brighter ones without doing any serious mods? I really hate how dim the lights are.

I've heard good things about v-led.com. Check them out. Direct fit with no modding.

The part that is dim is #9 in NSXNEXT's reply diagram to my post. It contains the outside air temp, odometer, and trip odometer. It is unclear to me if the bulbs listed as item 15 do anything to illuminate these digital displays from behind. The dealer parts guys didn't know. I looked under the dash to see if this was an easy reach item, and it is not possible to reach from behind. Has anyone actually taken a '99 TL instrument package out from the front and replaced any of these lights? Part # 9 is a solid state display that costs $351, and I'm unsure if it is any brighter than what I have.

Part #15 are the bulbs for that cluster. No you can't access them from behind. The inner dash /climate control have to be removed giving you the access to the gauges.
Usually the only problem is they go out but they are just that dim and very hard to see day or night. The only way to brighten up the area is with led's.
