Dead OBDII port

Hey all,

I have a 2002 TL-S that has had an intermittent SEL. The only other time the light came on was when the trans went out at 98k miles. To make matters more concerning, I replaced the cat a couple months ago with an aftermarket unit. I am guessing this is either another transmission failure or a cat efficiency code, but knowing for sure would be nice!

I went in to a local parts store to use their scanner and found the OBDII port to be dead. The TL is my wife's daily driver and I had met her there. I hooked up the scanner in my truck and it worked great. All fuses in both sides of the dash have been checked and are fine. I used my multimeter to check voltage between pins 4 and 16 and I get nothing.

Any ideas? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Before you waste a ton of time, try another scanner. I've been down this road before.

Where is the OBD II port located? I checked under the dashboard and found none. Thanks!

behind the shifter- that panel between/behind the seat heat switches
It comes off and the port is right there

Helps to move shifter to Low gear position to get your hand in and remove that cover

Yeah, I was going to drive across the street to a different parts store until I saw it work in another vehicle. It also made me more confident it wasn't the scanner when I had no voltage at the OBD plug. About the only thing I can figure might be wrong is a short somewhere in the wiring, but I was hoping there might be another possibility. I think I will double check with another scanner just in case something strange is going on!

Is the OBD port tied into the accessory fuse on these cars?

I removed the panel and there is only a square hole, where an OBDII port is supposed to be. Can it be elsewhere depending on model year? My car is 2003 TL.

Thanks!

On an 03, it's under the dash, just to the left of the center console.

I don't think so. According to my wiring diagram, underhood fuse 46 feeds pin 8 on the dlc. However, the illustration for the dlc shows B+ at pin 16. On my car, cavity 8 is empty, and there is B+ at pin 16. [bottom row, far right, facing the connector]
