Changing instrument & climate control button lights to LED
Can you please advise on what type of aftermarket LED lights can be replaced in instrument panel and climate control buttons
|
As long as the LED bulbs you buy fit into the little plastic socket, you'll be good. Make sure you get the kind with a built-in resistor. I can grab the model name of the ones I used when I get home.

Please inform make and type of LED to be used.

Hey, completely forgot about this when I got home. So you'll want any LED "bulb" that'll fit into T5 plastic housings. Such as the below:
Note that I did not use those in my TL, but I did use them in my Toyota Avalon. They're decent but they don't scatter the light enough for use in our dashboards. You'll need to look for one that has multiple LEDs facing in many directions. Something like the below: https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...rofit-car/206/ I used some kind of LED that was meant for interior lighting I believe - it was huge so I had to fabricate a system to hold it upright in the dashboard and solder it in, but it gives super even light distribution. What you end up choosing will depend on how much work you want to do. I'd say take apart your dash and look at how the bulbs go in and where the light diffusers are, and make your choice based off of that. If you're not in a hurry, I'll be changing out my interior indicator lights this summer and I can try to post a picture of how I have it set up then. |
Thank you.
My question is a) Do you change only bulbs using same sockets or Do I need to buy LED bulbs with sockets as a set? |
You can totally reuse your existing sockets. The ones I bought recently for my Toyota came with the sockets, and I used about half OEM and half aftermarket sockets just because I broke some of them on the way. For my Acura, I reused the existing ones.

I think bulbs in instrument panel are completely different than bulbs in climate control. https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...ot-fit-954909/ Bulb in instrument panel are minimal. Doubt led version exist for it. Looking behind I should check before tearing climate control panel if Led exist for it and change all at once. A few months after tearing and bringing "new" bulbs from you pull one bulb die.

Some of the bulbs in the climate controls are replaceable for sure, if not all of them. It's been a while since I worked on mine but it was all very straightforward. Nothing like changing the lights in the stock stereo - now that's a tough one.
