Car Jerks ?
hey guys,
Acura tl 3.2 2002 type S at about 135k Miles.
I have been noticing a jerking feeling when the car goes about 20 mph to 35 mph, Lets say from the 3rd gear to the 4th gear, it jerks a little. My worst guess : Tranny.
TELL ME:
Am I right ? Is it time to sell the car to a person who can afford to get the tranny rebuilt ?. Does anyone have rough estimate of what it would cost in NY ?..
The jerking is not that bad. It does a little, I sometimes accelerate more or let the acceleration paddle go and put my foot on it again and its fine. How long will it take the tranny to ef me over and give me a check engine or the D blinking light?. It is not skipping any gears yet. It shifts fine. I can feel it shift and i count the shifts. I am usually on the high way. So I basically drive 80 percent of the time on 5th gear, 10 percent on 4th and the rest on the others. Got the tranny fluid change recently like within a month from the dealer and problem has been happening since a month before the oil change. The dealer never mentioned any problems.

well thats your problem!
once it was slipping or having trouble catching 2-3-4 gear, the fluid change was pretty much guaranteed to kill the trans!!
If it was the first time any fluid was changed on it @135, and the new fluid just washed away the last of the friction material....a month later its gone,,common problem
Have you ckd the fluid level at 15 minute freeway warmup? its possible they didnt put in the right amount,,the shop kid does fluid changes,
Between the dots is correct at that temp,,towards upper dot OK,,towards or below lower dot = trouble
Did you tell the dealer it was acting up BEFORE they did the fluid change?
was it the machine powered full fluid 7 qt change. or 3 qts manual drain and refill?
They know better than doing a flush on high mileage trans with probs- even those without-
Most will decline performing even a 3 qt job- too much risk of them taking blame!
It can throw codes - D5 light at any time now
Selling it without disclosing imminent failure is major bad karma
retail price $2500 for local shop rebuild, on average
go talk to the service MANAGER abut the failure and its relation to their work on a high mile trans
