Brake Pad Shims...

Hey guys,

Getting ready to do a brake job on the wife's '02 TL. Replacing both front rotors and pads because the rotors have warped. Using Raybest rotors and Raybest ceramic pads. Always had great luck with Raybest products on my other vehicles.

Anyhow, my question is this: The factory brakes on ths vehicle have black shims on both pads per side. The pad that attaches to the caliper, however, has an additional silver shim. When attaching the shims to the pads on the caliper side, which shim goes on first? Black or silver. Also, why are there 2 shims on the caliper side? I read somewhere that the silver shim is a sort of heat shield. Is this true? Lastly, by using the shims, do I still need to use anti-squeal spray on the backs of the pads?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Anthony

I had luck with Raybest too. On the caliper side, it has two because it is needed to avoid clunking noise when you drive your car back and forth. You need the black one on the outside, the one that has the clips around the pads. Basically, you want to put it back the original way when you remove the pads, and yes, you need to apply anti-squeal as much as possible to avoid squeal headache. Good luck.

Thanks buddy! Your help is very much appreciated. I figured someone who say "just put them back the same way you took them off". Unfortunately, I'm playing cleaning by redoing someone elses brake job and questioned if the shims were put on in the proper order.

This definately helps me out though.

Thanks again!
