99 Oil in intake manifold

I have a 99 TL with 230,000 miles. Car was running fine, but it has been parked for the past 5 months without being started. (I know). The TCS and ABS lights were on. I started trying to get the car ready to be driven again, and I noticed it was surging while idling. After doing some reading on here, I figured the Idle Air Control Valve may have gotten some deposits. So I followed the write up on here to replace it. When I took the throttle body off, I noticed there was a lot of oil in the intake manifold opening. Is this normal? Should I clean it before putting everything back together? I don’t know a lot about cars, and I am trying to learn by working on this one. I have attached pictures. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for being a NOOB and not properly searching before asking. I just saw a thread in the CL forum about the same thing, and apparently this is normal. Still wondering if I should clean it out before putting it back together

The EGR valve and PCV valve recirculate oil and carbon deposits back into the intake manifold for emission reasons.

You could try to clean up the opening there, but I suspect the whole manifold is caked in carbon deposits, the black soot.

If you really want to clean it, take off the whole intake manifold and run brake cleaner through it

Then make sure the EGR valve and PCV and IAC are clean and operating! If not replace those items
