03 TLs TRANS SWAP TO 06 ACCORD TRANS
I just completed the swap last night. Bought the car for $500 with issues with the original trans. Did a little research and figured I would go the route of swapping to a 5 speed auto out of an accord and not run the risk of getting another weak tl trans. Picked up a trans out of an 06 accord v6 coupe for $750 with 56k miles on it. started the swap sunday evening and after working monday and tuesday i had enough free time last night to finish it up.
Just to be safe I swapped over the park safety switch and both sub harnesses from the original trans due to the plugs being different on both, the twin shift solenoids on top of the trans, and the whole trans fluid warmer due to there being a difference between the two.
Drove it home last night and back to work this morning about 100 miles round trip and everything works great. Sport shift works flawlessly and it shifts thru all gear smoothly in d5 as well.

How does it Accelerate? I Mean both Trans have Different Ratios and since you Have a TL-S Im wondering how my Swapp will feel Eventually when My TL Original decides to Go...
I already have the AV6 Trans in my Garage waiting to be Swapped..

Awesome I did mine almost two weeks ago and have about 650 miles on the swap so far. It shifts better than any of the other transmission that have been in my car. Can't beat 1250$ for a car as long as it's in decent shape.
@skirmich- on mine even though I have a tl p it feels better but hard to tell because mine had to sit a couple of months. 4th gear is the best thing about the swap, you can tell its a shorter gear because now I don't have to drop to third to pass a person. So far I've been getting about 25-40 miles extra on a tank as well

Hey Eddie, great job.....thanks for posting your swap experience. Taking the time with your TL tranny replacement must be very rewarding to be able to jump in the car and have everything work. With your talent and skill you could do more with a $1250 investment than any other financial advisor could ever dream getting on a return of initial funds !

It accelerates amazingly. I've only gotten on it hard once since the swap and it pulled from 0-110 pretty damn quickly. It has no issue keeping up with my friend 98 mustang gt either.

The swap is not as difficult as you would think you just have to remove alot of stuff. Once you get the old tranny out, set the two side by side. After looking over it real quick its pretty obvious what needs to be swapped. The entire oil filter Warmer/cooler assembly( the one from the accord has the same size line the tl has different size lines, get a new filter as well), the range selector( the accord has different connectors and not enough), the little wire harness for the third and fourth gear pressure switch. If you have a tl-p you have to pull the lines off the power steering rack, then you take a line about 5 inches and loop the power steering rack and get some tight clamps( I used hose clamps/t clamps). I think I have some pictures that I can put up later once I get to a computer. If you have any other questions I can try to answer them.

Nice,* knock on wood * my tranny has 111k and is doing fine but if it ever fails ill be sure to throw in that accord v6 , I've been hearing good reviews about it. Out of curiosity where did you pick up the transmission from ?

seems like a great alternative to a faulty transmission or failure, I had a 2007 av6 exl the transmissions in those are bulletproof it seems and shift like butter I def would like to use one if It comes to it.

would be awesome to have paddle shifters in the 2 gen as well anyone think it can be done. I know a friend of mine has a lancer ES and he order some paddle shifters off a gts and installed them right on it was plug and play... Im sure it wouldnt be as easy since our cars were never designed for them.

1st pic is the loop for the pwr steering pump speed sensor I made. second is the old and the new side by side (everything swaped). Third is a top down of the AFT warmer/cooler/filter thing (the only other thing aside from the range switch, that needs to be swaped).

oh yeah, I got the trans off ebay for 900 (free shipping) it has 100k miles. I just got it bolted up and the subframe remounted so there is no question about it fitting. I'll post some pics in a minute

Well crap. From searching on the 3rd gen TL forum, and even 7th gen Accord forum, those trannies don't seem much better than ours. Plus they (3rd gen guys) seem to use a mix of aftermarket transmission fluids and pressure switch replacement to keep them alive.
Yes I'm new and could be wrong, so please feel free to correct me.

I think I will do the upgrade with a used tranny and see if anyone wants to take over payments.
Thanks again for posting this. I've owned the car for 6 weeks and need a new tranny. F'ing lovely.
