00 Post AV6 Won't Shift from D to N
Hello all,
I would like to start and say that this forum has been a life saver. I have used it to solve dozens of problems with my 00 TL. I have always been able to find a solution so I never posted just lurked. But I have not been able to find a solution to this problem.
The Car:
I bought the car used with 190000 did the AV6 swap (thanks to the help from this forum) just under two years ago at 205000 miles and it now has 225000. The AV6 had under 40000 miles on it so it now has 60000ish miles on it.
The Problem:
The car does not want to shift up from D (UP as in towards the dash so into N R & P) to N, R or P. It moves from N to D easily but won't go back up and it goes from N to R to P like it should. The car shifts from park easily (eliminating the brake pressure switch that has been posted about extensively). The brake lights and reverse lights also come on eliminating the brake switch.
I have been using an old Acura key from an 96 tl I had to press the shift lock release to get it from drive to neutral and reverse. I've taken off the console and looked to see if there was gunk or something keeping the shift cable from shifting and there was not.
For a while I could run the shifter all the way down (to D1) and up a couple times and it would seem to trick it into shifting to Neutral. The problem does not seem to be the shift lock solenoid because it comes out of park (which it did not do when I disconnected the solenoid to test it). I do not have a check engine or a flashing D5 (I have experienced both of those) so I don't think using the shift lock release is causing it harm but its a inconvenience (particularly this time of year). I have also checked fuses to make sure there wasn't blown one somewhere that was causing something to not operate correctly.
My current thoughts is it is a solenoid (but I don't know which one) or perhaps the shift position switch. I could be off base completely as well. Any help would be appreciated. I have a service manual from where I did the AV6 so if there is a reference in there please point me to it. I hope I formatted this and included enough information for those of you knowledgeable in this area.
Thanks
