Road kill at the tail of the dragon

Roger (mr.motoring) and I went out to the tail of the dragon... videos and other pictures to come, but I wanted to post this one first.

On the second day, we were out in my car for an early morning run and a freakin' beaver popped out in front of the car. It didn't stand a chance, of course, doing barrel rolls and cartwheels out the back of my car as I watched in the rear view mirror.

Notice the fog light missing... BOTH fog lights popped out upon impact, even though there is absolutely no damage whatsoever anywhere on the car. The bumper tabs where the housings mount to are perfectly fine and so are the housings themselves. The bolts just somehow came out clean and the housings popped out. I'm still mystified as to how that could happen.

Anyway, enjoy the pic... as I said, videos will come soon. I was pushing it really hard up there and we've got some good footage.

double sided sticky tape (picture cameras)

PA mounted on his dash above the gauges. I had mine mounted upside down stuck underneath my visor mounted V1.

Sounds like you were topping out your 2nd gear... so 60~mph?

That's at least 20, 25 faster than what I was doing when I was down there in your car, Rob.

edit - cool vids and sweet pics!

We both stayed in 2nd most of the time. Most corners are 30 MPH, with some straights good for 60 MPH.

^Yeah, those roads are tempting and inviting, but the trees around them aren't so kind... I was afraid to go fast around corners, especially the blind turns.

In that one vid (just Rob's car), I'm surprised he got so much open road... I was down there last Fall, on the way to drop his car off to him, and I was stuck behinds soooo many cars and bikes.

You didn't get to go on a early Sunday morning.
But luckily even Saturday afternoon wasn't too bad... i.e. 18 wheelers.

Hopefully, the next time we go, we get good weather and no traffic.

That picture of the dead beaver is priceless. It may be the funniest pictureof a dead animal ever. I ran over a rabbit in the mountains in Colorado once, managed to miss 4 or 5 but the last one wasn't so lucky...they would just dart across the road every few miles. I must have got him with the back right tire because there was a blood spray all over the fender.

At least it wasn't a deer.

We were behind a 4Runner and I saw what looked like a log rolling across the road. We couldn't avoid it, so over it we went. I can only imagine what it must have felt as we heard it bouncing off of the undercarriage. Well, right after mercy showed it the calm asphalt again, a very bad scraping noise emanated from the front. Not knowing what to expect, we pull over and witness both foglights dancing off the ground tethered only by the umbilical 9006 wiring.
