My 2000 TL

My 2000 TL
Well, it was, anyway. Now I have a 2003 TL. I have to say that I think the car saved my life. It was an early morning and the sun was very low in the sky. Early morning dew was on the windshield and my wipers sucked.
I pulled out onto the main road like every other morning and drove like normal, probably getting up to about 35-40 mph. I couldn't see much of anything, but the tree line would clear it up soon. I didn't get that chance as I suddenly saw a cement truck stopped in front of me. Apparently, he missed his turn for a new housing development and just parked it in the road with his four-ways on until he could find out where he needed to be.
I managed to get both feet on the brake for about a second before I slammed into the back of the truck. I felt my hands fly forward off the steering wheel. When I looked up, the windshield was right near my face and the back of the truck was sticking into the compartment near my head. Had I been 6 inches to the right on the road, my head would be splattered on the back of the truck...
Regardless, seat belts (always) and air bags save the day. I just reclined the drivers seat and pulled myself out through the back door. I had a tiny cut on my hand and forehead and nothing more.
Other TL owners, be assured you have a pretty safe car. Now, you want to see the pics, right?

Whoa! Glad you're OK.
Really odd the way the hood wrinkled up like that, and the passenger side and the front bumper look untouched.
So are you saying they totaled your 2000 and now you have a 2003? That doesn't look totaled.

I am definitely glad that you are alright. I had a scary crash like that back in February. My hand almost went through the windshield. (It cracked it). I was having a flashback as I read your post.

@Bonknhead: Yeah, the car was totaled. It had high mileage and I guess the engine suffered some damage. Their choice. I bought the car new in 1999. Now I'm driving a used 03 TL and much less in love with it.
@adamlee05: I guess the blame on the accident was a draw. He shouldn't have been stopped and I should've driven more carefully considering I couldn't see anything. I'm haunted sometimes with the thought of "what if it wasn't a truck; what if it was a person". Anyway, my insurance (Allstate) took great care of me. No hassles at all. Well, my premium went up an extra $100/yr, but no points and no citations.

glad you are ok man. sorry about your car, it looks pretty bad.
I just got my car back from my hit and run. but i was lucky that my air bags did not deploy. But yeah they probably totalled it due to the airbags went.
But im glad to know our cars protect us very well. Glad you are ok and safe!!!
