Gimme Your Opinion on my New Wheels
So here's the deal. I am middle aged, love my new (to me) 2003 TL-S, but want to be incognito. I have had many lowered and blingy cars, with this one I would like to keep a low profile. I was looking to buy some RL SH AWD rims (18-19") when I came across these. I used to have a G35 Coupe, and I thought they would be similar, but they are actually off of a 2007 M45. They are 18x8" with a 47MM offset. I love the stance and the width, the only issue is the huge Infiniti symbol. Please give me your honest opinion, I am considering sanding the center caps down and putting a proper Acura emblem on them. I will have about $200 out of pocket after I sell my factory 17"s (on the black market here if you want a great deal). I like the way they look without a lowered stance (but I do plan on a 1.5-2" drop in the near future). Gimme your opinion...

Yeah, nice low cost upgrade and lookin' good.....!!! Probably even better with the drop.
Perhaps consider changing the color of the rims to gunmetal to enhance the visual impact.

Thanks guys, I have a history of bad wheel choices, but I did like these so much (the offset puts the wheel/tire perfectly to the edge of the fender) my wife said they looked a little "much" (not sure what that means). In the 1990's, lets just say I had a certain 1992 Si hatch with some fat 5 spokes that were painted bright yellow. Sorry, no pics of that, but I can say that the fat 5s were replaced by some Avanti racing wheels, and that year won 2 awards at the NIRA nationals (and the people from Avanti wanted to photshoot my car to put in their next catalog). So when someone gives me a strange reaction to what I think looks good, it makes me think I may have made another bad choice, so THANKS!

It's funny you mention that. Yesterday I FINALLY took one of the centercaps off and to my surprise the emblem was only attached with (2) plastic clips. It literally took me 3 minutes to remove all (4) emblems and clean/wax the caps to remove the dust marks of where the emblems were. I will post some pics in the next day or two. There are now 2 small clip holes and a small nub (probably to align the emblems) on the caps, which are hardly noticeable. I am going to try and find some raised Acura "A" emblems, and if I cannot, probably just go to a sign shop and get vinyl ones made. I think first I will plasti-dip them in Anthracite, I really like that color on a white car (I had a white Jetta with Anthracite wheels), and then see if I can find chrome emblems. Thanks for all the positive replies!

Will the Plasti-dipped rims withstand the heat built up by the brakes ?

it will, but it'll get dull eventually. I prefer the oem finish to spray paint or dip.
Overall, looks great and I agree, lowered a little will set them off and make them look better on the car. Right now, with the wheel gap, they are a real POW in your face big bright wheel...once you go lower, it'll flow perfectly.

I guess the dull look turns me off over time...I like longevity and I've heard nightmares about not putting on thick enough coats or overspray that is stubborn and won't come off. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
My personal opinion, I guess...but I agree, can look great.

I have plasti-dipped a set of wheels on a 4runner I had. Not only does it cover the blemishes and surface scratches, but it now comes with a metalizer finish. After I finished them, they looked professional (and I am NOT a professional painter). I took my time, made many thin coats and followed the directions on thier you-tube channel. They looked great, could withstand pressure washes, and didn't look dull as the metalizer has some sort of very small glitter that kept the wheels looking shiny. Maybe I will do a step by step with pics so people can see how easy it is, and how great it looks when finished...

Hey Groovemaster, yeah a "DIY" with the new "Metalizer" Plasti-dip would be appreciated.
On a side note, after looking at the above pic's....there appears to be a slight difference in the shade of paint between the front and rear passenger side doors. Just an illusion of the shadows ?

There was a small accident on the rear right door and rear right quarter panel, before I bought it. I think someone drove down the side of it, the Carfax said it was a $2100 repair. I'm pretty sure they matched the paint to the rear bumper and trunk instead of the front right door. It's definitely noticeable, as you can see, but the repair is solid, and it was the only accident on the car ever. You know how pearl coats can age...

Ok, yeah.....pearl can be tricky to refinish. $2100 doesn't go far with body repairs.
My guess would've had been that the front fender and front door were worked on.
The rear quarter looks blended very well with the bumper, trunk and roof. Just curious, how's the front fender's paint match to the hood and front bumper ?

The Carfax said it was the right rear door and fender. The front door and fender are 100% with the a pillar and hood/bumper. Like I said, I think the painter chose to blend with the trunk and rear bumper instead for the front door.. Either way, it wasn't a show stopper for my purchase...
