Fun with sandpaper...
I sanded off the oxidation on my headlights today. I really like the outcome. They are like new again.
I also painted my grill again.

Thanks for the comment's.
1st. 1500 grit- 10 minutes wet sanding
2nd. 2000 grit- 20 minutes wet sanding
(after the sanding you wont be able to see through the light at all, so dont worry)
3rd. 3M rubbing compound (rub it in hard, or use a buffer)
4th. Meg's Polish
5th. Meg's carnuba wax
You could start with 1000, 1500, then 2000 grit if the headlights have severe scratches or haze.
When I said oxidation I ment a haze that can be seen and felt.
1st. 1500 grit- 10 minutes wet sanding
2nd. 2000 grit- 20 minutes wet sanding
(after the sanding you wont be able to see through the light at all, so dont worry)
3rd. 3M rubbing compound (rub it in hard, or use a buffer)
4th. Meg's Polish
5th. Meg's carnuba wax
You could start with 1000, 1500, then 2000 grit if the headlights have severe scratches or haze.

did you use meg. scratchx polish??.....i used that and it made the headlights look blurry

Damn, I have a 99 TL and my headlights still look like new. Yours look way too old for a 2000.
And you live in CA too...nothing but sunshine year round.
I live in the northeast with all the snow, sand, salt, etc...So if anything my headlight should've looked like yours and vice versa.

I know this is and old thread, just wondering if a flame polish would be better than using a silicone based product.
I have access to a hydrogen torch that is used in flame polishing acrylic for sign work..
anybody out there have any thoughts or just about how long this clean up lasted?

Three Wheelin'
one of my headlights is turning like yellow kinda. would this sanding down the headlight take away the yellow. i just got new blubs and i want to have a nice looking headlight

The hazing is most commonly formed by years of UV damage.
I did the wetsanding myself...worked great!
Your best bet is to buy a "headlight restoration kit."
It's one of the easiest ways to get all the pieces and also the UV sealant in a few ounces without having to purchase larger quantities...
