ooooo ahhhhhh.
black out your headlights >_<
i dont like the murdered out look though, i like the tail lights the way they are stock
i think the b pillars and window trim should been left gloss black and the front A badge and wing within the grille left chrome. but dont take it personally, it's just all imho's.

props for doing this defantily has alot of potential however your front is killing it either get the black headlight tint like i did or take the headlight apart and paint it a flat black inside also i would of just blacked out the red of my tails not the whole things. Also get some high temp black paint and hit your mufflers so that theres no chrome at all

Unless they took your car apart,to scuff behind door handles, moldings, edges, etc, the paint will peel sometime in the future. And since there is no clear, what's protecting the paint from being stripped off by say, thinner, or spilled gas?
There is clear that will cure to a flat finish too, like someone else mentioned.

well since he took it to a professional im sure they took the time to do all of this plus he still has more coats to get and they have a semi clear coat they can use for the final coat. 550 is kinda cheap but hopefully he wont get hit off with the maaco treatment

its a $1200 paint job. I got a deal of 1700 for two cars, because i also took my 00' trooper to get repainted. And ive seen them work on my TL.
a very professional job, nothing like maaco, or maaco stories that ive heard.
the TL was totally sanded down by a machine, then hand sanded.
I had two huge dents on my hood that were noticable from 12 feet away. those were popped back out. and all other small dents on the hood were glazed.
after that, it was sanded down again to get rid of the excess glazing.
after the sanding, the whole car was blown to get rid of all residue.
got primered after that.
yes, door handles were removed, mirrors were removed, tails were removed, headlights were masked off.
everything was painted, besides the inside of the car.
that was upon my request, to keep the original color of the car somewhere available. (a lot of people wonder why i did flat black, and wonder what the old paint looked like.)
i got two coats painted, dried in one of those infrared booths
they gave me 10-15 days before the next two coats
reason being, flat black paint drips, some parts come out darker and lighter. you will not notice this on day one when you take it out of the shop.
by day 4 i noticed a few streaks on my drivers side back door
showed it to the shop, they made a notice of it, and told me to still wait out for the rest of the week and a half.
i took it to them today, they inspected the car. washed it and dried it, to see if there is any fading, streaks, lines, made a few notes and pointed out things to me that i didnt even catch
next week got an appointment. car is going back in for touchups, and the two final coats.
plus, for 550 i got 2 years warranty.
this is the only shop i found that actually had "FLAT BLACK" as one of their paint choices, and even gave a warranty.
majority of the shops, dont carry the paint. they can get it for you, but wont give you warranty, because of "dripping and fades."
so far, im happy with how it looks, and happy with the shop service. esp since the manager is himself is taking the time to paint my car personally.

That's good that at least you saw the mirrors, handles, tail being taken off and not just masked off.
The 'drips' are probably runs, which is an error on the painter, not the paint. Yes, flat black has to be overlapped more than other colors to get a even finish, otherwise you do end up with 'tiger stripes' which are the darker/lighter lines you saw on your door.
Also, the only way paint will adhere to a surface is by the surface being sanded/scuffed and by the top coat chemically linking to the ground coat. The latter has a time frame though, after that time frame, the top coat won't adhere like it's suppose to, and the ground coat will have to be re scuffed. Which is why I find it weird that they're waiting days/week to put more coats on.
There is a reason why quality paint jobs cost $4,000 + not $900, so no, you're not getting the same thing for less money. The materials alone, to paint a car, even if it's an 89 crx, would easily be between $800-$1,000 for a base coat, descent clear and some sand paper and scuff pads. That's not even mentioning the labor hours to take the car apart, prep it, mask it, spray it, put it back together, and at the least give it a quick cut and polish.
From what I've seen, Earl Schreib may have been around a long time, but it's still a maaco type place as far as paint goes. There is a reason why they give 2,3,5 year warranty and not 'as long as you own the vehicle'-warranty like a reputable auto body shop. The paint will likely hold up a year or so, after that, it's just a matter of time.

once everything is complete then i am def going to get another paint job done.
question is, when that time comes, i have to spent more time and research between flat black paint vs flat black vinyl
most of my time goes into 4x4 off-roading cars
working on the TL has been only a few months now. just a new project/hobby i got into and so far, im enjoying it.
hmm...this should go into the "new users welcome page"
hahaha
thanks for all the input guys. appreciate the advice and tips

That's true. I don't think cars like this tl pull off the murdered out look too well. And 550 is too much for an easy paint job you coulda done yourself. Ithink you should repaint it stock again for a couple hundred more
