Towing with TL-S

Hey has anyone ever towed anything with their TL-S? I would like to pull a small trailer and a motorcycle. I'm sure the car can handle it. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this?

Thanks

I had to use the boat ramp a few times, but ours isnt to steep and its grooved concrete for traction. Slap-er down into first and pull away. I use my expedition whenever possible to pull it though

I have 2 trucks (expeditions) and quite frankly there is nothing wrong with using the car. In fact i personally think it does a better job

I've a 01'TL with about 90K on it. Had it's tranny replaced about 30K miles ago under warranty. Car-wise No custom job, it's all factory so far.

I put in an order today for a MtrCycle trailer that's supposed to weigh about 175lbs. I own a Honda VTX 1300s cruiser that will weigh about 800lbs all inclusive (gas+accessories). Making it about 975 lbs (trailer+bike). Temporarily relocating to CT; driving from Dallas-New York over the long weekend.

Was wondering if this is within reasonable limits and what others have experienced.

Also, what else would I need to buy (hitch etc, stuff that goes on the car) to be able to tow trailer w bike to my TL. Recommendations (parts, models and vendors with links) would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

PS: thought would supply w info about a MC trailer from my research that others might find it useful
  • Link1: Link to OEM of Trailer-In-A-Bag (a very neat & compact design; can store in a car's trunk)
  • Link2: pic of an assembled trailer (e-z to assemble & dis-assemble)
  • Link3: sample pic of MC being towed (i've seen pics of a similar cruiser being towed by corolla's, minis, mazda z6's etc)

buy some bolt on's to compensate. I.E headers, intake, exhaust and maybe even an SC.

By the way Kris doesnt count in this thread his motor is a 3.__ who knows so many mixed internals that his motor is the J series frankenstien. im guessing a 3.6

That was some value feedback ..will go with my backup plan of a rental SUV to get the job done (paid by my employer). I was only checking if I could take my TL, coz I wanted to drive my car instead of a rental once I'm in CT for couple of months. Nothing to beat a TL's easy steering versus having a workout with stiff rental wheels .

For sake of clarity on what we have..does it mean a vanilla 3.2TL can't tow ****. I had seen online at various places of cars like a Mini Cooper, Corolla & likes pulling behind similar weights . (In no way I'm saying I bought a TL to tow, but again.........)

I had opened a similar question on the MC forum...a guy came out saying he had towed close to 1K lbs on a CL...maybe he was pushing it...but just wanted to share..

Anyways, ThanQ folks.

Your stock 3.2 will tow your bike just fine. Ive towed the boat when my car was stock, And the 4 wheeler in the back ground was towed while still being a auto trans. That with trailer was 800+ more than your bike setup will be. You wont have any problems towing it. Dont let these guys scare you. The car can handle 2k lbs without issue. Yes our trans arent the best out there, but as long as what your pulling doesnt cause it to up and down shift a lot thru 3rd gear you wont have any thing to worry about (and what your pulling wont)
