Throttle Body

A couple of guys on the CL forum have sent out a throttle body to be ported at King , my question will we definately have to lose the VSA and is it worth losing the VSA for the throttle body?

Will you have to lose VSA? BUT remember the VSA unit will have a smaller inside diameter than the ported TB and the intake manifold will as well. So until you port match the entire intake tract, you probably won't see any gains.

Call King and ask them if they could port the VSA unit as well. I don't have one on my 99 so I couldn't tell you if it's possible. Then find a machine shop to port the intake manifold opening.

Yeah, you really need to go all the way or nothing.

On my 99 I've got the TypeS TB and a custom 3" CAI. Now I need to port match the intake manifold opening and I should see some improvement.

I had King MotorSports bore out both my TB and VSA at $150 each. I then had my IM bored out at a local shop for $125. Total cost $425. Net gains 0-3 whp.

Save your money and buy a UR crank pulley. Twice the gains at half the price.

I agree - think about how little they really are making the opening bigger...not much at all % wise compared to the entire opening.

Sucks almost as bad as the Unichip that only got about 3-5 whp.
Total cost of the Unichip plus custom dyno tune was about $625.

I wouldn't recommend a Unichip either.

LOL! I still remember that speed shop Hurleysurf used, he (the speed shop owner) was talking shit and didn't come up with dynos to back up his claims.

if i remember correctly, each TL had to be tuned individually to get the gains. to use the generic unichip setting coded for I/H/E/P (or whatever settings you want) didn't pan out because of mod differences i believe.

That is correct. To get the 3-5 whp, I had to have the Unichip custom tuned by a local speed shop that is a UniChip distributor. The generic mapping on the chip was causing the fuel air mixture to be too lean and causing pre-detonation.
