So who's crazy enough to do a Type R Swap?
https://jalopnik.com/honda-has-a-306-hp-crate-engine-from-the-civic-type-r-i-1819975856
So Honda just announced that the new Civic Type R motor is available as a crate engine.
So the real question is, who's gonna be crazy enough to go through the first Type R swap on their 2G TL? 😂
I understand ECU's and wiring harnesses will need to be changed, brackets need to be made and a 6 speed manual is a must but im sure it's possible to do. 😅

Mostly just for sh*ts. It's only $6500 for the motor so it's not that unreasonable. A well built or boosted J series motor will still destroy it but performance parts for them aren't cheap and you gotta fabricate your own turbo kits if you want to go that route. Would make an awesome daily if you had a Type r motor and a 6 speed in a 2G though.

Getting a 4cyl 2L engine to fit in our engine would require some serious fabbing though. And the end result would be a slower and worse sounding engine, so it would be a lousy daily.
Not sure why you think that little 2L engine could compete with real performance for our cars. 6 cylinders > 4 cylinders.

I mean this would make a cool toy since it's already built but the asking price is ridiculous...
They're asking for ridiculous prices in Canada though, there's an auto trader listing an 03 Cl type s 6speed with the ct supercharger for 14 grand. Most 2G TL's I see listed with the ct supercharger are pushing 10 grand for some reason.

That's Gnuts' car. It's priced way over it's value, but he likes his car. I wouldn't sell my car even if someone offered $30k.
Also, I personally think it's lame to buy a car that's been built by someone else. Personalizing it yourself is half the reason I do it in the first place.

on desktop and desktop version on mobile; it's set up to where YOU place things.
you placed a picture and then started typing below it.
next time, you can hit the return/enter button to space things out and keep an eye out on the cursor. keeping the cursor above the text will place text above the picture.
I have no clue if this is true for the mobile version of acurazine, that's why I dont use that.

The motor won't be available to the public for a while. It's only available for sponsored people and a few companies right now. But $6500+the cost of fabrication, tune, ECU, parts and labor. You can have a car faster and better handling with that kind of money. Or just use that money on a down payment to get a Type R.

Replacing any J-Series Honda motor with a 4-Banger Type R motor is really a dumb idea. Why? If for no other reason than $6,500 for the new motor and then probable AT LEAST that much again in labor, fab work, and electronics. The odds of such a swap actually being successful are pretty slim which in turn means all of the money and time are flushed down the toilet.

I think if you had a CRV/Pilot/Integra laying around collecting dust; it would be cool to inject type-r blood into them. those cars are 3000lbs and under and would benefit from a stronger 4 cylinder.
as far as a car like the TL or any other car that weighs 3300lbs and up; wouldnt make sense to drop in the type-r motor.

Lol. Good point. I have an 08 TL. I wouldn't give up my J series for a 4 cylinder tho. The J series sounds too awesome. And with less I can have more. But with all that money, I'd buy the car instead on fabricating the motor into another chassis it wasn't built for.

you have much to learn about turbos and forced induction.

You missed the point entirely; I have no issue with a 2.0T Accord. The idiots are the ones who try and take the Type-R crate motor and try and swap it into a car with a J-Series motor. Epic fail (both in the attempt as well as in the brain).

A built J37 should obliterate the stock Type-R Engine...
But then again the Type-R engine can be tuned very conservative (Ala Audi Turbos) so there can be more power on that 2.0T to be squeezed out.

Doubtful. That 2.0T pulls mad torque waaaaaaaaaaay earlier than the J37 can. The J37 doesn't hit peak torque until about 5500rpm. The 2.0T does it around 2000rpm. That means it's putting down max torque way earlier, and way longer through the RPM band than the NA engine can. Also, Horsepower is the same, so no real advantage there. Overall, I bet the 2.0T would be a bit faster overall.
I know you agree on pricing being not worth it, but you could even get a SC on the J37 and still have the engine cost less than $6.5k.
