replacing clutch

I know im in the wrong section but nobody ever responds back to me in the CL forums, or it just takes way too long. Anyways I have an 03 CL-S 6 speed and I just ordered a new Acura OEM clutch kit, release bearing, and pilot bearing(I hope it comes with the alignment tool), Im going to install it myself. Is it difficult or not really? Anything I need to look out for? Or should I pay a shop $350 to do it with no clutch warranty?

I am mechanically inclined, Im a marine mechanic, I have my own shop (business) so I have a million tools and whatever I need. But boat engines and cars are different, I work on boats everyday, not on cars. But still I think if someone just briefly told me in short terms step by step in a quick way it would help, but if not I would have to figure it out myself. Doing something for the first time (changing a clutch) is always the hardest, but if you have done it before you know where to start and what to expect. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks. (Its just that I have such a nice CL-S I dont want to hurt my baby.)

Trans has to be removed. Remove the axles from trans, support engine remove the front lower sub frame. The cl clutch they want you to use a special tool to compress the clutch but it can be done without. Its not hard, just take your time and look at how things are assembled

Just wondering, the OEM clutch that I bought from acuraoemparts.com I had to buy everything seperate, the "clutch set" comes with the pressure plate & disc, I wonder if it comes with the alignment tool because it doesnt mention the tool anywhere.

New flywheel? I thought I could just get it reserfaced at a machine shop. Also, I dont have a lift, just jacks so I was planning on doing this on my back. You think its still possible?

Its recommended to get a new one. Most shops cant resurface our dual mass flywheel properly

all depends when you take the flywheel off and if you see hot spots like i had you should go for new flywheel i mean if you resurface it, it will work but just wont last that long as new one. after 13k miles my clutch when hard shift from 1st to 2nd slip. if you drive a car normaly do not race or abuse the car you can go with resurfaced one... its up to you.
350$ to have it done is not much. My mechanic did it in 4hours + time to get the flywheel resurfaced. if you dont have a buddy to help and lift... let the shop do it

I just got my clutch. Now you know I ordered it from acura.....It came in a Honda box which acura is honda I know. But I didnt know that the disc & pressure plate are LuK. I guess thats what they originally come with stock, but online there was a Luk complete clutch kit from a non-acura website with the bearings for $180 brand new. I paid $ 362. I wonder if there is a difference, or if I just paid almost $200 more for the same clutch?

Your right, my clutch kit didnt come with an alignment tool, but I had saved one years ago from my 1993 integra and its a perfect match. So now I have everything i need. Does anyone know how much oil the 6-speed tranny holds? I might as well change that too. I am going to tackle this tomorrow morning so I'll try and take some pics as im going.

Ok, my tranny is out. NO IT IS NOT AN EASY JOB. DEFINITELY NOT AN EASY JOB. What a pain in the ass. The pain is still not over because now I have to put everything back together again. So anyways I was up till 2am lastnight so I could have the flywheel off an resurfaced by NAPA (the only place open today). They knew that I had a dual mass flywheel, they said they do all flywheels. I woke up today at 6:45 am to be there at 8:00 when they opened up. I drove almost an hour to get there, and guess what they said when I gave them my flywheel? "We dont do dual mass flywheels, in fact you cant resurface them at all." I got so freakin pissed off because they knew what I had the day before and they said it was no problem. So now my car still on jack stands, I dont know what to do. I have to wait until monday to see if any machine shops could do it. I really dont want to spend the money for a new flywheel, but I need to get this done. Does anyone know if they make an alluminum flywheel for my car? If so is it worth it? Give me some advice please.

thanks man, i was searching around on luk's website and couldn't find crap. but my total here is like 598 on hiteparts, if i went thru acura/honda it would have been 700-800 for both clutch and flywheel.

Sorry for re-vivng old post

So, did you get a new flywheel?

New rear main?

How hard was it to put back together?

Did you do it with floorjacks?

Thanks, Rob

If you have an alignment tool it makes the job much easier
Its recommended to get a new one unless you can find a shop that can resurface the dual mass flywheel.

HIGHLY recommended that you replace the rear main while the trans is out, especially knowing that it is a part that tends to leak on the j32a2. Its only 10 bucks.

It can be done with nothing more than jack stands and a floor jack
