Race Inspired Exhaust

What do you guys think of a straight 3in pipe exhaust from megan headers all the way back to a single magnaflow muffler. And a magnaflow resonator in the middle of the exhaust. This of course deleting the cat and most bends. Would the ECU react different because of the deleted cat? Your input, as im getting ready for track season

i'm not sure if you would benefit from going with 3 inch piping. you might even lose power. I'd stick with 2.5 inches with an RT cat. Single exhaust has been done before so it's nothing new. Let us know how it turns out and it's nice to see people doing different things. people need to stop calling things rice just because.

Unless your FI, id say its a Waste of money, and you would most likely loose lots of low end power. Id spend the money on something that would make hp.

Thanks for the input, how would I be loosing power? no cat with 3in all the way back? we have a 3200cc motor I would think we would benefit from the wide open exhaust. And I doubt it would sound like shit since I would have both a magnaflow resonator and muffler. Maybe very loud but not sound like shit.... low end loss isn't really that critical since we are at 5-7krpms when we're ever racing. More input please.

I'd appreciate you not calling me a ricer, and it looking like crap is your opinion but it can look clean if done correctly. And i've done plenty of research on piping/resonators and mufflers.

Our motors are designed to run with back pressure. By eliminating it all you will be reducing hp. Because we have a 3200 motor doesnt mean you would benifit from it. Now like i said before if you were FI like a big turbo then 3" would most likely help. but not here. Full on cat backs only yield like 5hp. the system is pretty free flowing the way it is.

Also you asked if any one ran with out the cat and the only problem being the cel being on for the O2. well if its not reading right the computer may not be letting the car run at its optimal performance The very very small gain you "Might" get isnt worth the time, money and effort. but thats just my opinion. (plus it will most likely sound like crap)

deleting the cat is not worth it. i remember i saw in a mag a few months back they did a run with the stock cat, ceramic cat, and metallic cats on a civic. i know its a different car but i think it would hold true to many cars. the ceramic and metallic cats had only a 1 or 2 hp difference. from the stock to these cats were like 5hp. so i dont think its worth the trouble of the louder exhaust, CEL, emissions, etc.

Like what fsttyms1 said if you are not FI its not worth the 3in. the bottom end will suck which is where we normally drive. but of course it is entirely up to you bro. if you have the extra cash to spend and run different set ups more power too you.but i think the apexi/ tanabe/neuspeed/comptech specs are pretty optimal unless you are FI.

i have to agree 100% on the FI part my buddy did a 3 inch piping and dyno it lost almost 6 hp... then he changed back to regular piping and turbo it and dyno gain alot... then he droped the 3 inch pipe with turbo and got i think around 18-20 more hp.. but for all motor 3 inch pipe is too big loose alot of backpressure and runs like crap... so unless you supercharge or turbo it stick with 2.5.

Ok... well I want to re-do my exhaust regardless. Im leaning toward 2 magnaflow rear mufflers and a resonator in the middle. How big is our stock exhaust (on the TL-S)? Should I just go with 2.5 from the cat than split into 2x 2.25s?
