Editing 1st post sorry

Hello everyone i have a quick question. I just brought a 2002 TL Type S and i just found out the previous owner has a unichip system in it. What are your opinions on that system and any problems with them? Also it has two switches so i am guessing there for different maps. One has a led and last night my check engine light came on and today the light is off so i don't know if this is a problem from the unichip.

Thanks

The two switches are either for a 87 and a 91 map. I'm not too sure as to which one, because you'll know if v6 performance.net was still up, then you could check on that site for more information regarding the Unichip. All it does is that it gives a base tune for the mods that it was designed for. I don't see why a CEL would come on, maybe you're running too rich/lean.

FIRST of all, you need to check what the CEL is for, then go from there and eliminate the problem, if it's the unichip, take it off, if not, then dont.

Well the check engine light turned off today so im thinking its a problem with the connect to the ecu..

Is the unichip system good or bad? Compare this to say a vafc II or greddy system?

Unichip is ok, though the gains vs price to me werent worth it. Next time the CEL comes on get the code read to see what it is, it would be far easier to diagnose the issue then.

So the check engine turns on the other day checked it today for codes and its just one code P0420. Also since i purchase the car the car has had a pretty bad exhaust leak could that code to due to that?

That code is a O2 bank one code (front O2 sensor)

Find where your exhaust leak is first and foremost, and get that repaired. If its where the O2 is its possible that is your issue, if not replace your O2 sensor.
