PIAA 998 Turbojector - HID Conversion - ?
To all you lighting guys:
I've had a set of the PIAA 998 Turbojectors sitting around for a while and have been meaning to install them on the ol TL.
These are the beasties in quesiton.

Im not a huge fan of the yellow beam the H3 bulbs give off that came with these.
My question is this - Can I safely upgrade these with a 6000k H3 HID kit?
They get smokin hot as it is - so I figure heat wouldn't be an issue. And by the looks of the internal cavity, there's plenty of room to house an H3 HID bulb.
Thoughts???

If you want to run hids with those it will require major modding of the housing. But assuming you are going to buy an h3 kit, and assuming it is long enough, which is cutting it close because the bulbs are long, you still have to cut the back of the housing to get the hid wires to come out. I would just buy super white h3s and call it a day.

It looks like the H3 hid bulbs would clear everything and have room to spare. The back of the housing already has a grommeted hole for the wires, it'll be a tight squeeze though, as the factory wires for the standard H3 bulb are thinner. But it should all work.
As for the hyper whites - it has em... They look lame, specially compared to my retro headlights. I wanna match that same bright off white. And the second intense cutoff that will be seen below my headlights - I think that will look sweet!
My only issues right now are finding the right HID kit - so many...can't find weather a $70 is as good as a $200 one or why its not...
And I wanna put these in the dummy spots on my 2000 bumper that I've already cleared out, but it'll take some cutting of radiator support frame, might be too much to safely take out. We'll see...

well at least you know what you are doing, as long as it clear you might be ok. I dont know about those $200 kits but my knock off kits seem to be as good as my old OEM ballast. But i'm with you on that, I think my next mod could be a set of HID projectors for my fogs.
