OEM White HID vs Aftermarket White HID

I am wondering is the Aftermarket 5000k hid bulbs (Pure White) brighter or the same as the 03 factory HID bulbs

The factory bulbs are 4300K. I don't know how different the color is but I am interested in finding out too. I don't really like the blue light as much as I like the clean, bright white light.

Nothing is brighter than stock as far as bulbs go. If you want brighter go with a custom Projector setup

Here I go again with my love of the Kaixen 6000k
Today I was reading the box for my new outdoor flouerescent houselight with 6000k at 250watts ~output~ on 36 watts draw. It talks about the blue being better for seeing things at night, all I know is the driveway light color is nearly the same as my headlights now, at 1/100th their power

lol, I kind of want to try the 6000k Kaixen also. Don't know if I should wait until my OEM's go on me or not because they are still running fine.

They are not fine- you just havn't noticed the degraded light output yet
There is a killer deal online now at 90 per pair for Kaixen 6000k
just do internet search, I am not posting link out of respect to our vendors with same product

I might have to jump on those, I read up on them and they seem to be a great OEM replacement.

I found the 6000K phillips were quite a bit dimmer than my 4300K phillips...I love the light color but I really like the road to be lit up, not make it pretty...has anyone compared the 6000K Phillips vs Kaixen 6000K?

If you read kaixens main website - you learn they are THE international research institute for lighting technologies. As a result they hold patents on the newest trickest combinations of gases and parts to make their own brand of bulbs. Phillips is the original maker and uses its original formulas.

The other night I got to run next to an 03TL and my 01TL for an extended time.
Compared OE lights to my K6s- he had more white light directly in front of the car, while I had longer range at picking out road markings and signs. For my use, the k6 was the hands down winner, as I care what is coming up on the road, by the time its in the close light range - its too late to do anything about! As long as I can see the left white line in the fog-rain-snow- I am not going to run off the road- thats a good thing IMO
check the internet for D2C bulbs on sale or vendor excelerate here

I just got some 6000Ks on ebay for $65 but I think I got ripped off. Seller claimed they were made in Japan but they are clearly labeled Tai Chang; probably some Chinese junk. I haven't had time to replace them to see if they are actually any good.

A perfect example of why there are 2 -3 places recommended for bulbs
65 bucks for a pair of new HID zenons? not a chance dude! maybe 5 years old-used

OE cost 200 each! Kaixen retails for 150 a pair- can sometimes be found for less

2000 Tl

Hey guys... I have been noticing my headlights on my 2000 TL to be dimming or not being as bright as they should be. For example when I turn my lights on at night they seem to be bright and blue/white... but the longer I keep them on it seems to dull out to more of a yellow tint, which I hate. Is there anything I can do by just replacing the bulbs? Can I upgrade to something better without digging to deep in my pockets.

Your bulbs are reaching the end of their life. You need new HIDs. There is nothing better. You will be amazed at how much the stock bulbs have dimmed.

6000k isnt brighter than 4300k the kelvin that u want if u want bright is between 4100k and 4300 k, the higher the number the less light is being put out.

if you dont believe me go to hidplanet.com/forums and read

the 5000k are only recommended if you are replacing 1 bulb
what happens with hid is that they have a tendency to color shift up in color as they die ( you may see some 01's with purple lights thats why)

5000k matches 4300k after it has color shifted

but if u want a birighter look the 6000k-8k is goin to look brighter but for hid performace its not

Yes Twan you are correct. The more kelvin the less lumen (light output). Stock HID kelvin is somewhere between 4100 and 4500 on most OE applications. 5000k is pretty close to that and it is a natural white color. 6000k is extreme white with a hint of blue and to the naked eye will be brighter than OE but technically it isn't. If someone wanted close to OE they should get 5000k.

He probably had his fog lights on (standard on 02-03) so thats the only reason he had more light directly in front of him. So your bulbs were outperforming his stock HID setup.

HAHAHAHA oem parts are best NOOOOOO
OEM parts are whats cheapest deal the assembler gets in bulk purchase,
otherwise there would be no aftermarket parts!
The right brand is crucial, and many ziners like the color and sharpness of 6000K
Technology has come a long way in recent years
the bulbs interchange- its no big deal

Well I finally got around to replacing them and wow, they make a huge difference (they are or at least look new btw). I don't know how they would compare to Kaixens but these bulbs are actually damn good for $65. They give off a nice blue/white color and are much brighter than my old bulbs.

Here are what the bulbs I pulled look like.

Wow, $65 for the pair is a very good price. What brand did you buy, and from where? I put in a new pair of Philips D2R 4300k's I bought from eBay for $89 (shipped), this past weekend and they're great. They are way brighter than the 5-year-old stock OSRAM ones I had that were going pink.

Not sure what brand they are. They came in protective cases labeled Tai Chang but the guy I bought them from says they are manufactured in Korea and just relabeled. They also came with a 1 year warranty.

Just to throw in my random experience with lighting...
I am involved with portrait photography and to use daylight film (yes, I still shoot on film) indoors, I use photofloods of a color temperature of ~4800K. They produce natural light that is very easy to use, and the film, can't see much above that color temp. However, they have two drawbacks-they make the room very, very hot and have an effect life of about 3 hours. After that they start to lose power.

Personally, I would either go with HIDs that are close to stock or maybe something higher in the 5000K range. But I do have to say that some of the higher range HIDs look really, really sweet. It's great to know there are options.
