Smile My Alphawerks headers are shipped!

I ordered Aplhawerks headers on the group buy from Excelerate to replace my "always humming at low/mid RPM - welded twice - not gonna deal with them anymore" OBX headers.

I'll let you guys know how they compare to the OBX headers. I guess Alphawerks repositioned the O2 seonsor for this batch - which is good. The OBX headers just about stick the end of the sensor into the transmission. There's maybe 1/16 inch clearance!

nope...only Comptech headers have the CARB plate thing - eventhough you will pass a smog test with any brand of header as long as your O2 sensor is hooked up right and working properly. The header brand doesnt have anything to do with smog readings. its just that most inspection places only look for that because they are too lazy or ignorant to just test the car - if you can get them too, you will see that you would get the same readings as a stock car.

Well, they showed up and the overall quality is much better than OBX. All of the welds are done both inside and out, and the flanges that bolt to the engine are a good 1/4 - maybe 3/8 inch thick. The pipes on the collectors are actually inserted into the hole in the mounting flange half way and then welded into place (as I wrote) both inside and out. It appears to be a very strong connection that should last a long time. (BTW - that's where my OBX's cracked!)

Unfortunately, my rear collector is missing about 90 degrees of its inside weld on one of the pipes. I will be contacting Excelerate to get a replacement.

More later...

Angry Wtf!!?!?!?

I was supposed to get them installed today and the mechanic called to say that the rear bank was warped and the holes didn't line up with the studs. They tried to drill them out a bit, but that wasn't the only problem.

In addition to that rear bank screw up, the O2 sensor is hitting the transmission. They thought they would be able to remove a tranny bolt to get it to fit on, but it's just not going to work.

Well - I now have to call the manufacturer and see what I can do about getting an F-ing header that will actually fit the car! We'll see what kind of adventure that turns out to be.

I haven't got my bill yet from the mechanic, but I'm pissed as hell!

So far I CANNOT recommend these headers at all!

Great... my mechanic didn't find out that the headers wouldn't work til about 4:45. They ended up putting my OBX bottom pipe on with the alphawerks collectors to get me back on the road. Because of the warping the rear one is leaking like crazy!

The manufacturer said I need to send them an email with all of the information and they'll send out a call tag for the headers.

My mechanic said he has about 5 hours in on the job already that he'll bill me for, and the collectors need to be removed tomorrow = more billable time!

WHAT A F-ING NIGHTMARE!!!

Did he say why they didnt work? Mine fit fine. You just gotta play with the downpipe till it fits perfectly. I finally installed my ported ones 3 weeks ago and they are great . 5 hours? Did he know what he was doing? I installed mine in an hour and that was my first time.
