Mid Muffler Removal

Hi, I wanted to remove my mid muffler in my 02 tl-s. what i was woundering was if i do this will it affect the emissions. i live in vancouver and air care is required every year. i was also wounder if the exhaust resonator can be remove and replace with stander tubing? and it anyone has tire to put flow master muffler on a tl because im not a fan of the tuner fart in a can sound.

yes you can remove the mid muffler, it sounds pretty good imo and it wont sound like a fart can, and for the emission it wont affect it as the mid-muffler is a muffler, it just quites down the noise, thats why its called a mid-muffler.

why would you wanna DIY .. unless you really have your own torch and welding machine lol. it only costs around 40~ to get it removed and replaced with a straight pipe.

the only time you will notice a difference is at the top of fourth and into fifth. that is if you have had it up there with the mid, res and mufflers removed and drove it before all of this. i advise against removing the res due to the rasp very low in the rpm range. i have tried all three variations and am going back to stock in a few days. just leave it alone and get an intake, its the only way to "improve" the sound of the vehicle, imo. good luck and welcome to the forum. you will learn alot here. if you are interested in removing any kind of exhaust though just take it to a shop, its pointless to do a diy unless you have a welder. clamps are not the way to go and no shop will charge you over $100 to hack a piece of pipe in either location or both.

not really sure why getting an intake would effect aircare though?

lol. my fault dude. probably not one of the smartest questions I've asked but yeah. im still INCREDIBLY new to this whole car thing

i know what the resonator and mid muffler are, i at least did my research on that.

so i could take it to the shop and just pay for the materials and labor?

yep. depending on where you live and how many shops you shop around at, it will cost from $0 to $125.

i did mine for $60. i found another place months later that wouldve done it for $40. to put that in perspective, Meineke (or other chains like that) charge $125. dont go to a chain.

yea that would be the easiest thing to do. don't let them rip you off though. i paid 40 for mines, so some where around that area is a fair price
